Why the hell did I think Peters was 24? Brainfart.

Makes me feel a little better then as that was some pretty sloppy play.

And as a guy that knows the defense well enough at this point, it's just one less thing that DJ and Berry have to worry about when aligning things.

I'm not sure what you're saying.

I think Mauga is a decent starter and, for that, he's worth keeping around.

No matter who you think can play what- if we lose DJ, having Mauga around would serve to mitigate the cost of losing him. If we dump Mauga and lose DJ you're talking about starting Wilson and March. That could prove to be an All-Pro combo, but we don't know for sure and I'd be reluctant to risk such a promising season on that assumption.

Sure, when Hill gets to just run unmolested over the middle, he's going to get separation (and who is 45? That was pretty poor work by him). But he's also not going to have that much green in front of him. More likely than not, some ILB would be looking to break him in half on that route or a safety looks to light him up. In either event, he's not going to be free to just double back and try to jet around the DB like that.

You just don't learn much on most of those plays, IMO. You see when guys **** up more than anything (like Peters poor defense on Streater in the first play; got torched and the throw was late/short).
Yea you're right. That's why I'm not too hard on the corners, because it's definitely an advantage for the WR. It was just nice to see Hill having to deal with some physicality.

That one with Russell vs. Hill yesterday was a 1 on 1 where you get a good/realistic look though.

Ah, I presumed you meant to slide over into DJ's role (as you were responded to Pest's post regarding his job as DJ's replacement).

That's a bad plan. Though I agree that he would be nice to have in terms of stability alongside March if it came to that.

I think we're probably on the same page.

Yeah, I don't think that's something he's really going to have to deal with much. People talk about how he's going to get off the jam; simple answer is that he probably won't. You can put guys in motion or play them off the line to buy someone like him enough space to keep DBs from being able to engage him immediately. And if they can't get their hands on him within his first step, his quickness will allow him to absolutely destroy them.

Coaches can't handle big plays. I'd be shocked if teams really try to body him up much and if they do, there are ways to scheme around that.

FWIW DJ said that Ramik is a very smart guy that can run the defense. I went back and watched that Vikings game last year that he started and he was pretty ****ing good. We shut AP down and he led the team in tackles. Completely different player than the player some of us saw on tape. He was playing downhill. Looks like he's been doing the same thing in camp.

Pretty lengthy and interesting article on the state of our secondary, its says they seem to be using Gaines more in the slot than outside, but I dont recall seeing that in the camp reports

But then they also said this:

Gaines left offseason activities as the presumed second starter at cornerback opposite 2015 Defensive Rookie of the Year Marcus Peters. Gaines and Steve Nelson have split time on the right side with the first team so far in training camp, and Gaines clearly fits into the Chiefs' plans.

From want I understand, Nelson has been the starter at RCB and when we go into subs Nelson slides inside and Gaines comes in at RCB.

Yeah, it really seems like a lot of the traditional rules are out with Sutton, they're going with a much more situation/package specific, mix and match approach... I like it

HEAD COACH ANDY REID

OPENING STATEMENT: “As far as injuries go, Jamaal [Charles], Tamba [Hali], and Justin [Houston] didn’t practice, but they worked. Josh Mauga didn’t practice because of a groin strain -- he’s making progress. Dezman Moses had a little bit of a glute strain or spasm. He practiced for a while today and then had to come out. We’re gradually bringing Phillip Gaines back in. We took him out yesterday, he came back today and we gave him a little more work. As far as the injuries go, that’s it. We had a good practice today. We did the ‘long-drive’ drill and backed the ball up a bit for a different situation. We also worked the ‘two-minute’ drill. We worked a few different situations before the game on Saturday. Tomorrow, the players have off, then we’re back on Friday for a ‘mock game’ and we play on Saturday.”

Would Houston be in St. Joe "working" with Charles and Hali if he weren't going to play this season? I don't know why, but that makes me feel good about the situation.

What constitutes "work"?

I'm guessing rehab for JC and Houston?

Well I assume Hali and Jamaal are doing a lot more than your typical rehab stuff if they're going to practice in a couple of weeks and play week 1.

Still, no telling what he means exactly by work, but I feel good knowing that Houston is there and working with those guys like he's going to play this season.
