Alex Smith Traded to Chiefs
Well, it looks like the deal is done.
https://twitter.com/intent/user?scre...w_p=tweetembed Jay Glazer @JayGlazer 49ers have completed a trade with the Chiefs for Alex Smith, tho can't be official til March 12. Chiefs really made a commitment to Smith Jay Glazer @JayGlazer Deal has been agreed upon between Chiefs and 49ers. Compensation unclear but I'm told again Chiefs have made a clear commitment to Smith. |

I think giving up that much say's a ton in many different aspects. The biggest one say's we just didn't have any leverage competing with other teams(especially not having any kind of legit NFL QB on our roster) so we had to drop our drawers. The second aspect say's Dorsey/Reid feel strongly they have a good chance of moving down recouping that second round pick because things will heat up for Geno as we get closer to the draft. And the third aspect might be that Dorsey/Reid(in their eyes) might feel this draft 'overall' is very very weak and whether you give up a 34th, a third rd or 4th rd there is very little difference 'this year'.

What bothers me the most and I dont know if its been menioned before, but Everyone who actually thinks this is a good trade for the Chiefs uses the premise that they dont want a rookie or that there is no rookie better or who knows if the rookie turns out to be better. They want to win now and a vet like Alex Smith gives them the best chance. Yet, they(True Fans And FO) are in favor of letting a franchise left tackle, who gave up 1 sack last year go in return for a rookie. I dont get it. It makes no sens, there is no logic to it. Lets get a vet qb who folds like a cheap lawn chair under pressure and let a rookie protect his blind side. A Cassel clone at Qb is fine instead of a rookie, but an established vet at LT is easily replaceable by a rookie, because he was picked at #1.

BAP and we take a LT with the first. Next year BAP being a LT our turn in the first, who will we take? Ok another LT what happens if three years in a row the BAP is a LT when it's our turn to draft?

Maybe this is part of the plan. Trade for Smith and suck so bad this year that we can get Clowney next year. Then the following year, we're still bad because Alex Smith is still hot barney anus garbage & we can take Kevin Hogan from Stanford in 2015. World's largest Hulk Hogan impersonation party every weekend at Arrowhead!

I posted this on another thread but this seems to be the main thread here so I'm taking the liberty to re-post. Weak, I know.
___________________________________________________________ My apologies to all Chiefs fans. Another N00b 49er fan here. You might as well embrace the full suckage with us showing up. I just wanted to warn that one of the things the big Alexsexuals will boast about Alex is his efficiency. 70% completion rate. Top passer rating. Very few turnovers. It's true. You are getting a QB with very good efficiency because he plays it safe. He is risk averse. IMHO, efficiency without production isn't worth very much. What good is a 70% completions when it comes from 75% of your passes being 6 yard slants and passes to RBs out in the flat? Now if you have a 70% passer rating distributing the ball well all over the field like Rodgers or Manning, then that is worth boasting. But that 70% completions is only because Alex tends to go for the short easy pass first. That is a big component of the WCO, but so is stretching the field to open up the middle for rushing. We'll see if Andy can fix that, but if Jim Harbaugh couldn't fix that, I would not expect too much improvement there. And it is true the Jim Harbaugh really taught Alex ball security. He is great with ball security and that is really going to help the Chiefs. Alex rarely makes mistakes. The downside is, he won't pass to a closely covered receiver. They have to be wide open for Alex to want to take the shot. He will make the deep pass occasionally and his deep completion % is not that bad. That is because if the deep receiver is covered, Alex refuses to try to throw him open. Reid fixable? I don't think so. Also, Alex will tuck the ball and take a sack rather than throw the ball away. So he doesn't tend to throw picks or put the ball on the ground, but you end a lot of drives with unnecessary sacks. Instead of 3rd and 2 throwing the ball away where you can pick up 2 rushing, you will be 3rd and 9. I have to admit Alex was improving at throwing the ball away instead of taking sacks when he was replaced by Kaepernick. So maybe Reid will continue this improvement. You can only hope. Finally, since Alex does live and die on the short dink and dunk, your WRs and TEs need to be pretty good with yards after the catch. It was not at all unusual for Alex to be in a 3rd & 11 or 3rd & 14, and he would throw a 3-yard pass to Gore or a 6-yard pass to Crabtree, and pray that the YAC would get to the 1st down marker. You have already seen the stat that Alex is pretty weak in 3rd down conversions. Maybe that is because the 49ers lacked the big tall WR who could go up for the ball over DBs. And maybe it is because Vernon Davis can't reach over his head to catch a ball but has to leap up to catch it on his number, making him catch shorter than his 6'-3" height. But just maybe the poor production on 3rd down conversions is because on 3rd and long, Alex throws 5-yards and under, expecting his receiver to get the YAC to get the 1st down. All this is my way of saying, don't be fooled by the Alex fans saying that Alex is super efficient. He is of course. But what good is an efficient QB who is not a productive QB, in yards, TDs, 3rd down conversions, and red zone scores. Last edited by Kaepernick; 03-02-2013 at 01:36 PM.. |
