As in for lunch or something?

If so, I'd probably take him to Free State Brewery or Jefferson's if you're wanting to check out downtown. If you want a place that's a little bit outside of downtown and more open for easily getting in, Johnny's North (or West, depending on where you're coming from) or you could hit up 23rd Street Brewery.

If he was a little bit older, I'd suggest The Wheel (and pizza), but Mass St is probably your best bet. Campus is campus, if you're wanting to check out that scene. Sun is out and it's mild, so if he (and you) are interested in checking out the coeds, they'll be dressed in their typical barely-there clothing.

As a craft brew enthusiast, my two favorites are Free State and Fields & Ivy - both have good food.
Second tier (for me) is Lawrence Beer Co and Black Stag.
23rd Street comes in last, IMO.

But really, there are a lot of great places to find good food and good beer.

Big Mill is great, close to the stadium and has good booze options.

Free State has great beer but their food is a tad overrated imo, Jefferson's is just run of the mill fried bar food, nothing special, Fields and Ivy is pretty good but a bit of a drive from the stadium.

Take him to Burrito King if he wants the KU experience

Ricks Place will have some food trucks and should be a little more relaxed about being under 21 if the sun is up. Rbar has good food too (especially the wings).

I'll second Free State. Food is decent and beer is top notch. I'm pretty fond of that place. One of my 2 favorite styles of beer is Octoberfest. Free State is my favorite one (followed by Sam Adams).

Such a shame that the best beer Free State offers is a seasonal. Old Backus is pretty good, same with Ad Adstra , but i wish they would branch out from the 47 different IPAs trend.

I'm with you there. I like an occasional IPA but it's never been an every day beer for me. And it seems like most craft brewers went way overboard on IPA offerings about a decade ago. And it's been that way ever since.

And if you were curious, my other favorite style is maibock.
Blind Tiger in Topeka makes the best one I've tried, but Free State makes a dang good one, as well. They call it (Brinkley's) Helles bock but, it's the same exact one they used to call Brinkley's maibock.

Blind Tiger Maibock is pretty good too. Haven't been up there for a while but it's a good brewery.

Freestate just isn't what it used to be.

Lawrence Beer Company makes much better beer and a nice variety of styles.

Fantastic burgers as well.

Yeah LBC isn't bad either and their buger is fire. Plus they have the best waffle fries (RIP Henry T's). But i feel like LBC also does the too many IPAs thing too
