I was a little concerned I would be let down, but I must say that I enjoyed it very much. Not quite genre defining like the first one, but a great ride nonetheless.

Holy ****, the shock value in that flick was awesome.

I was enraptured.

So are David and Ripley rip off going to LV-426? Or will they crash land there on the way? I'm going to assume each Donut Ship has it's own cryo'd engineer. The sequel would be awesome if it was a DIRECT prequel to Alien.

ALSO, what the **** was that thing at the end, a Queen Facehugger? Is that what happens when a facehugger gestates inside a human instead of an egg? AWESOME.

Loved it. 4/5 stars, and going back to see it in 3D IMAX.

I don't really get some of the problems people have with this movie. Yeah, the scientists made a lot of real dumb mistakes and were a bunch of naive idiots in general. That's what was so cool about it! They treated every encounter like one of the dumber Star Trek away teams, just a bunch of idiots running around doing every dumb thing just short of daring each other to take swigs from the capsules.

There was this amazing sense of breathless wonder at their environments over "MAN WE'D BETTER SECURE THIS AREA STAT, HQ GET ME A PERIMETER", which just made it all the more effective when that 50s sci-fi naivete collided with the harsh, uncaring, Lovecraft-meets-Cronenberg-in-a-dark-alley-and-gets-raped realities of the universe.

Yep, the gods are dicks, nope there are no answers and yup you're all a bunch of reeruned starry-eyed children.

Even Old Man Weyland, who is by any human standard a massive dick, does not stand up to the inherent uncaring hostility of the universe.

I mean this poo poo is consistent throughout the movie, but nope I guess people would have preferred a bunch of marines to come in and secure a perimeter and then watch them meticulously analysing every scrap of data on the planet over a series of centuries.

My only complaint about this movie is that the climax with the engineer is too short.

It could have been drawn out better and made more suspenseful.

When they finally encounter the living engineer he is studying them at first, interested, but not in a caring way. He becomes enraged when he focuses on the android.

When he realises humanity has become a creator itself (a god), he feels the need to destroy his creation as it has started to disobey him. The Greek gods didn't want prometheus to give fire to humans as it would give them too much power.

As mentioned before, he created us, therefor he owns us, so killing us is not an amoral act. It is about creating as an act of love (the god of the New testament) and creation as an act of masturbation, which is what the engineers did. They created us because they could.

When they realise we are becoming Gods ourselves they want to destroy us.

The spaceship ramming the alien ship is at the point of its impact shot like an eagle, burrowing into prometheus like the myth, and one of the reasons the machine refuses to do an abortion and must be fooled into doing surgery of removing an object is that it refers back to the eagle coming every day to rip out the liver of Prometheus, who was chained against a rock much as Shaw was tethered to the surgery unit. Also the instrument that removes the alien is shaped like a claw. in the myth Prometheus' liver grew back every day though, so maybe Shaw might still give birth to a xenomorph later on.

The IMAX 3d was WELL worth it IMO. At the very least see the IMAX, the movie is visually stunning.
