Yes, and great hitting catchers almost always spark debate about moving them off the position in order to prolong their health and productivity.

It's strange logic. We need a better hitting catcher! Oh, this guy hits so well we should move him!

Police responded to shotgun blasts near I-70 but were informed the sounds were indeed Eric Hosmer taking batting practice

Very rare. If Pena could hit .260/12/60, that would more than suffice. Given the rest of our lineup, all you can ask is for the position to not be a hole in the lineup. Same goes for Escobar except that Escobar saves a hit every other game which is worth about .050 of batting average.

What a disaster that contract is looking like. There is a very real possibility that it's going to bury the Twins for close to a decade. Petro did a great segment on it earlier this week. There is almost no reason to believe that Mauer is going to put up big power numbers regularly. He got a massive contract based on an anomaly of a year, and now Morneau is wrecked.

not to the same extent but reminds me of Mike Sweeney, keep a home town hero, the dude gets hurt and we can't dump the contract

So excited to see my avatar subject debut! The future is coming, Royals fans. Good time to be on the bandwagon.

Joe Mauer is a great case for why I love Sandy Alomar/Yadier Molina catcher types. Give me a guy who is going to play great D and put up above-average numbers (mostly, hitting anywhere north of .280) over the offensive stud catcher any day.

Going to be nice watching the Twins wallow with that albatross contract around the neck of a .330/10 LF...

At least Sweeney's numbers were pretty consistent. Mauer's pop came out of nowhere, and they gave him a contract as if he was Barry Bonds. The guy hit 28 homers in 2009. Prior to that, he had 29 in his previous BEST THREE SEASONS COMBINED.

Now, a guy with 13 RBI 29 games into the season leads them in every offensive category. Batting average aside, how pathetic is this?

For comparison, the Royals have 6 players with at least 13 RBI. Kila would be 5th on the Twins in RBI.
