Believe what your eyes tell you, not what your heart feels.

Nearly all of us and at a minimum a vast majority has seen this team in the Cassel, Smith and Mahomes era.

Another big chunk have watched the Montana, Green, Gannon, Grbac periods.

And the old farts like me have had to endure Mike Livingston, Mark Vlasic, Steve Pelluer, Bill Kenney and Steve DeBerg.

We ALL know the difference between a really bad team, an average team, an over achiever, an under achiever, a good and great team.

At this point, if you don't realize that this 2023 Chiefs team is average at best and trending down, you need to remove your homer goggles.

I love our team and have spent 53 years rooting for them when it was hard as hell to do and I didn't have other fans to console me after all the loses. I grew up in NJ. There were no Chiefs fans that I knew.

Mahomes and the Super Bowl delivered incredible joy and pride.

Now after 2 Super Bowls and non-stop winning we have hit an off year. It's easy to do in the NFL and we lasted longer than most teams do winning all the time.

Many of you see it but have remained overly optimistic. God Bless your devotion. I did that already for 50 years and now I can be much more realistic after the SB wins.

Do yourself a favor and be honest with yourself. You see it, you feel it and you know it.

This team has no chance in the playoffs. Don't try to tell me anything can happen, because it really doesn't. Yeah, a neat play here or there or maybe a win against a shit team but even now that is unlikely.

This team is burnt out. Since Game 1 not a ****ing thing has improved and in some cases has gotten worse: Mahomes and Kelce in particular.

When your top two stars are ****ing up and look like they need a month off to rest, you know you are in trouble.

I pray everyone stays healthy, we shut this shit show of a season down, rest our franchise QB before he gets injured or killed. The dude was running for his LIFE all day and our Oline has also gone backwards.

We have a great young defense, can focus on Oline and WRs for draft and signing FAs to rebound in 2024.

From play calling, to turnovers to penalties to oline blocking to drops, this has been a brutally ugly season.

Time to turn the page on 2023 and get our shit fixed ASAP cause it ain't gonna change in 2023.

Winning is contagious, losing is contagious.

Right now, the losing mentality and frustrations have overtaken this team.

I'm not even sure Patrick believed what he was saying in yesterdays post game presser. He sounded like he was trying to convince himself.

It's easy to be a 'good' winner and a 'bad' loser. For something that has seemed so easy and natural for this team (success), the opposite now seems to be true. They are pressing and everything looks mechanical.

I've used this analogy before; I remember bowling leagues where our team could do no wrong. Bad shots didn't leave splits and questionable shots in the pocket always resulted in strikes. Everyone has happy, high fiving, laughing and having a great time. The next game comes up and things start to go wrong. No one is having any fun, people are getting upset because of missed shots and bad breaks. I know that professional football players aren't the same as you and I however we have all watched athletes at the highest levels of competition struggle, choke and fall apart.

Patrick's not 23 anymore and has a very full life. He's also suffered several concusions and joint injuries. He is a very talented athlete and I believe the expectations he has for himself and those around him are higher than what us fans can imagine.

After five seasons of amazing success, I'm disappointed in myself for not allowing this team to actually show signs of fatigue and burnout. It seems that we expect perfection and the players on the other team are highly skilled and proud people, too.

So the OP asks to trust my eyes, so what do my eye see??

QB; the cocksure gunslinger that was PMII has been replaced with an unsure, frustrated, and dare I say scared version of himself. Yesterday it looked like Mahomes was looking for the perfect window and was second guessing his natural instincts.
WR; this group is like a trashed storage locker from the old show "Storage Wars", filled with garbage that has one hidden item (Rice) worth something.
  • MVS; enjoy playing for the Jets and A. Rodgers next year
  • Moore; enjoy being the 4th option for the rest of your career
  • Tooney; just go on IR for the season, you're more afraid of getting hurt than making a catch
  • The remaining WR room; JAGs everyone of you
OL; dear God what an inconsistent bunch this is, one week great, the next hot garbage, big time swings and misses on the tackles. I've been watching Trey Smith since his days at Tennessee, the mauling monster is missing this season, either he's injured or the scheme has changed.
TE; Kelce looks like a shell of himself and never, ever looks happy. The remaining TEs, more JAGs
Defense; The only bright spot this season has been the defense. Good and great pieces that have kept this season from becoming a total dumpster fire.
Coaching; this season has gotten away from Reid. He's the big dog of these pups, it's on him to set the tone, set the expectations and chew serious ass for the rank amateurish nature of what the team looks like. This is Jimmy Raye levels of putrid offense. Clark needs to sit Reid down at the end of the season, hold him accountable for what we have seen and demand improvements and a plan for said improvements.

What I saw yesterday took me back to some of the off years under Marty. Offense could not get out of its own way while the defense did its job.

Frankly, it looks like the offense went from this....

So much this. I actually was kinda prepared for it last season, and holy shit they won the SB. I started thinking maybe they are just other worldly. They are not. It's fine. Perhaps crashing down to earth (which still might mean a division championship and yet another trip to the post season) is not only inevitable, but needed. After awhile, we fans just expect the wild success, and maybe the players do as well.

Guess what? They other guys have pride and get paid as well.

This team is so bad they can’t even execute the first three scripted plays.

As a biased observer... the first three scripted plays were... GARBAGE. Nothing that attacked the defense. It set the tone for the entire game, in my opinion. I've never played a violent competitive sport like football. The margins have to be very slim.

And... our OL get owned all game. The down four of the Raiders were in the backfield all game long. No running lanes and Mahomes was running for his life/health all day long.

Probably the most frustrating regular season I've ever seen. Yes, we've had much worse seasons but 16 PPG lately with Mahomes is just unreal

The most frustrating thing is that the defense is finally elite. All the offense needs to do is find a way to be average. That could be enough.

Winning the SB this season would not trump 2019. However, it would be the most satisfying SB. To overcome this type of adversity would be glorious.

It probably isn't happening this year. Which isn't the end of the world. It's just a shame that when we have our best D in years, the offense looks dreadful. Even an average offense could get this team to a SB.

Ultimately, my head says this team doesn't have it this year. They look frustrated more and more each week. They look exhausted and burntout. They've played so many games the past six years. That eventually wears on a team. I have never seen Mahomes, Reid, and Kelce this frustrated before.

I wouldn't be devastated if they got knocked out early. It would give the organization more time to get things right for 2023. Veach has to nail FA/Draft this offseason though. Whether it's getting Mike Evans or trading up for a great receiver in the draft.

Unfortunately, I agree. Like fans, he is hoping for the best. Trying to be an eternal optimist. But, his face tells a completely different story in these press conferences.

2017 was the last frustrating season for me. The hot start, including beating the Patriots in their house. Then, everything seemed to fall apart. Reid was adamant that Smith would not be pulled for Mahomes. That frustrated me. But I know they were protecting him and didn't want to risk hindering his development.
