I'm reading "Inside the Third Reich" it's Albert Speers' memoir and it's fascinating to get a look behind the veil of the Nazis. |

Currently reading Jade City by Fonda Lee.

Fierce Valor: The True Story of Ronald Speirs and His Band of Brothers
by Jared Frederick if you have any interest in the series Band of Brothers then this book will intrigue you. Focuses on Ronald Speirs whose life I was most interested in watching the series. Truely a man's man who was fearless in battle. |

Colditz: The Full Story by P. R. Reid
Reid was a POW of the Germans in World War 2 and escaped from Colditz. Interesting book about different nationalites held there and how they attempted escape. |

I'll recommend a sci-fi series of books about warfare against aliens some time in the future. The author is named Marko Kloos, he emigrated here from Germany after serving in their army, he knows which end of the gun goes 'bang' and his scenarios make sense to me. The first book in the bigger/older series is titled 'Terms of Enlistment', and it sets up the following books. They don't make much sense if you don't read 'em in order. He's got 5 or 6 books in this series, and another series with 3 books, all available in JoCo library for free if you're a local yokel. I used to gab at him online before he published anything, we belonged to a pistol chatboard and I got along with him - so when he published a book I went out and found it and have read everything he's published since. He managed to make a living at this stuff and I've enjoyed his work. Recommended.

Might want to try the "Spinward Fringe " series by Randolph Lalonde. Or Galaxy's Edge series by Jason Anspach and Nick Cole.

Good to see others like him too. If you want to keep up with Marko, here's his webpage. He's just released a bunch of short fiction.

How about this for a book idea? Jesus comes back to Earth, the legit second coming, but his second coming sees him not as a humble carpenter this time but a 1917 French infantry soldier, being ordered to go over the top. What would happen then? That is A Fable by Bill Faulkner and it won the Pulitzer. There's Faulkner, then there's 500 feet of crap and sewage, then there's all the other writers people are talking about here in this thread. |

IMO, Faulkner is the best. Cormac McCarthy actually gets close, real close to that level of prose. In The Orchard Keeper. I'm low key mad that McCarthy was discussed at some length and his masterpiece wasn't even brought up! That being the Orchard Keeper, now brought up twice for good measure. Now my opinion could be discarded as the ravings of a lunatic, and Faulkner along with me. But I will remind you, good sir, that I also opine that the Chiefs are the best. So my opinion isn't all that wild! |

What led me to this current book Empire Of Pain was the book Dopesick. Dopesick was the basis for the series you may have seen on Hulu and touched on the Sackler family.
I was intrigued enough dig a little further into this family. They are kind of admirable l, but also real scumbags. |
