I haven’t chimed in yet as I wanted to let the trade finalize before judging it. Not certain what to think about a lack of announcement on the compensation. As far as Peters goes...it’s all been said. Talented, playmaker, volatile, selfish, etc. All that said, I come back to a handful of games last year where Peters REFUSED to tackle. This wasn’t Deion Sanders type tackling...this was a completely refusal to even try. Teams even started scheming to run at him because they knew of his reputation. It was 10 on 11. I remember thinking how challenging it must have been to be a coach reviewing film as a defensive back group, or as a team, and ignore his complete lack of effort; especially when KC, as a whole, was awful in run defense.

He returned after his temper tantrum/one game suspension, and was willing to stick his nose in on certain situations...which became more frustrating knowing he can be a well rounded corner when he wants to be (like he was his rookie year). That’s when I became “meh” on Peters. It wasn’t his temper tantrums or his sideline antics, or his “I’m fittin’ to get loaded” press conferences. It was simply his disinterest in being an every down football player that IMO will never change.

Go ahead and base your hopes on a 2 game sample size against the Raiders playing in Kansas City, where Carr has been known to struggle, and a glorified preseason game in Denver.

Then you let him play out his 2 years at cost then let him walk after year 5. At the end of the day, there is absolutely no justification for trading an All Pro CB on his rookie deal for peanuts. Circle jerk all you want over stories and rumors that he's racist, he doesn't give full effort, he gets into fights with coaches and his mom, etc, to make yourself feel better about trading him. It will STILL be an absolutely horrid move, because we KNEW this type of shit floated around him when we drafted him.

But I find it hard to believe he randomly snapped. We saw on camera how visibly pissed he was at fans talking shit to him even before the meltdown. That and fans completely trashing a cause he was obviously vocal about. You light that kind of fire to a powder keg and it's bound to blow up. I'm a at peace with the trade. The Chiefs may not have cut him because of the anthem, but I have a hard time believing this meltdown didn't happen because of how we reacted to his protest.

Kneeling for the anthem (or riding a bicycle during the anthem) was offensive to some people. And when you do something that offends people, they often lash out in anger.

That's life. If he didn't want to receive hate, he shouldn't have done something offensive.

Is it offensive to me? No. But it's offensive to some people and that's all that matters.

Using the sample size arguement in a 16 game schedule is a bit of a reach. You have to also throw in the Giants, Jets, Bills, etc., to the other side.

Simetimes you just have to look at the numbers for what they are, and go with the eyeball test. Defense was just as good, if not better without Peters.

I will step back and prepare for the beating I am about to take.

If all those rumors and stories are true, and we’ve got no reason to believe they aren’t, they’d be foolish to keep him around. The longer you have those types of things going on in the locker room, the bigger the issues will become. Eventually he will gave the entire locker room divided over hating him or loving him. Hell, he may have already.

You can say that drafting him was a mistake, but it’d be a bigger mistake to not get the most that you can out of him via trade now than to just let him stick around and raise more hell.

I'd be on board if he was still acting like a cancerous asshole on the field after his flag tossing debacle, but once Reid actually did what should've been done in week 5 and suspended him, he cleaned his act up. Notice how the worst of his actions all seem to boil down to week 13 and his meltdown against the Jets? If we nip that shit in the bud after his screaming match with Sutton, and sit him down for a week, maybe he doesn't continue to walk down this path of self destruction that ultimately got him off the team.

Per Terez Paylor, literally everyone tried talking to Peters and couldn’t get through to him.

I think the fact that the Rams were the only team wanting to do business says a lot about Marcus Peters.

The market dictated what he was worth. Pretty clear that the league knows he’s a huge problem.

To chime in regarding this whole narrative of how the Chiefs in abilty to reach MP equates to the idea of Reid as a players coach as being a farce. Let's not forget Reid orchestrated TO's second act in the NFL and served as Vick's parole officer. I'm not saying I'm happy Peters is gone, but the situation clearly was not salvagable. Hill, who came in with considerably more legal, and in my mind, more concerning issues has turned into a model citizen up to this point. For evey success coaches have reaching players like Hill, there's a failure waiting in the wings. "Some men you just can't reach. So you get what we have here today. Which is the way he wants it, so he gets it."

And that GM is gone.

Terez Paylor explained this perfectly in his podcast. Peters is now eligible for an extension and Terez said he probably wanted to be paid now and would hold out of camp when he wasn’t getting paid.

This was the smart move. We would have had to move him in 6 months anyway.

There are lots of players who do and say things that are offensive. I get taunting underperforming players. It's bizarre to me to taunt a player who's a big part of helping you win. It's one thing to disagree. But people were talking shit to him to his face. For years I've supported terrible people who've done things a million times worse than this, as long as they help our team win. I've never seen fans turn like this on a player of this calibre for something totally unrelated to play on the field. You know why you see less of this in Philly? Because if a fan in the front row talked shit to one of their best players, there'd be another fan sitting next to him that would beat the ever living shit out of him.
