If Suh is there you take him and figure it out. If he's not you have to take Berry.

Then get ready to load up on Oline and LBs in rounds 2 and 3.

Trade down and take USC's Taylor Mays. Get more 1st day picks. Eric Berry alone will not solve this team's problems, and there's not much drop off, if any, between Berry and Mays. Get another 2nd rounder, perhaps another 3rd next year. This team has too many holes to just sit at #3 and not trade down for more picks.

Suh is not a NT. What the hell would we do with Suh in a 3-4? We already have Dorsey.

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Switch to a 4-3. Jackson is the only player you haven money invested in that is suited more for a 3-4. I would slim him down and let him play LDE/Dorsey/Suh/Hali and then you just need to find a few LB's and Safety's.

This won't happen IMO, but I've seen worse ideas like switching to a 3-4 to begin with.

If we take Mays in the top 10, I'll be disappointed. That kid isn't close to being one of the 10 best players in the draft. Athlete, maybe. Football player, no.

Thing is, we won't switch to a 4-3 as long as Pioli is here. I like the 3-4 a lot better anyways. Though it's harder to find the personnel for it.

I really don't see why a GM should determine what defense a team plays. I think a coach should make that call and I think Haley also pushed for the switch. Although 10 years of Suh and Dorsey playing DT does sound enticing even at the price tag. You just can't be doing stupid crap like paying out the ass for a 28 year old RB.

Well before he came to KC, Pendergast never coord a defense in a 3-4. He was always a 4-3 guy dating back when he was coaching at OU.

Though I agree, I think the coach should determine what system theyre going to play. Haley's a Parcells guy, also a 3-4 guy. So who knows what goes on behind closed doors.

That being said I dont know why Haley would hire someone as DC who hasn't coached 3-4 in his coaching career.

If it were that easy....sure.

Would help if Locker came out.

Not much of a reason for another team to trade up otherwise.

The hope is that, unlike last year, Pioli will find a trade partner to trade down. This happens only if St. Louis doesn't take Claussen. Then, someone will want to trade up to #3. Frankly, if we can get another 2nd and not slide too far down in the first, we should jump it. We could get Mays later in the first, an OT, WR, and OLB in the first two rounds. That would bring instant help.

Pendergast ran a hybrid 3-4 in Arizona and I don't think he coached at OU. Are you thinking of Gary Gibbs teh LB coach?

I don't think he really had a choice of who to hire since he was so late getting to the party. Clancy was kind of appointed by default.

We we aren't going to be contending next year, so I say if there is someone there like Suh that you target and are prepared to make a change to a 4-3 go get him. If not I say stand pat and take Bradford at #3. We don't need another LT or too reach for a LB or Safety. Maybe Dez Bryant depending how how he test out.

I did and he was a beast. The guy got good separation and showed great run after the catch. Mays, IMO, last night left more than a little to be desired. He seemed to always be getting to the pile just after the ball carrier/receiver was going down. I could probably get on board with taking Mays 15-20 range, but much earlier than that would not be my choice.
