I'm interested in finding out what substance warrants a 1 game suspension vs the standard 4. Has anyone heard yet?

Yeah, but the NFCE is pretty much the opposite of what you're talking about... the Giants started off well, fizzled, then barely won the division with a record of 3-3 in the division. The Eagles dug themselves a hole, went 4-1 in Dec and 5-1 in the division, and didn't make the playoffs.

The league is so mediocre, the difference between winning and coming in last in the division can be one or two games... and you can make the playoffs by simply being average vs the rest of your division.

I get what you're saying... you don't have to play great football in Sept/Oct, you just need to be within striking distance late in the season when you're playing division rivals.... but, at the same time, when so many teams are still in it in Nov/Dec, it's nice to have some cushion (like the Giants). And it's not like "you don't have to play great football" only applies to Sept/Oct... a game or two above .500 is all it takes.
