Chiefs trade (Arenas) for...wait for it...a FB?
Chiefs acquired FB Anthony Sherman from the Chiefs...er Cardinals.
New Cards head coach Bruce Arians has no room for plodding fullbacks in his aggressive, vertical offense. So Sherman heads to Andy Reid's West Coast scheme as Jamaal Charles' lead blocker. The 2011 fifth-rounder graded out 20th among 25 qualifying fullbacks in Pro Football Focus' rankings last season. there is no context in which a CB has the same value as a FB...i'd rather have a 6th round pick than a player who nullifies our actual 6th round pick
can we hire someone to do trades for the franchise?

That's funny, because I had the same thought. While Reid has a track record as a coach and Dorsey as an evaluator they are getting taken to the cleaners in trades.

Yeah, I don't get the reaction. Trading Arenas for someone who has a chance to at least contribute on ST is better than just cutting the guy.

I like Arenas, but outside of his first punt return he hasn't contributed a whole lot. When he was put into the starting line-up after Routt was let go he played okay, but wasn't anything that will be missed. |

What the - ? I thought we just signed a backup fullback. We traded our nickel back and punt returner for a backup fullback? What?
Who's running this clown show? I liked Arenas. Why do we keep giving away perfectly fine cornerbacks?!?!?!

Another Pioli Blunder Ends With Trade
May 1, 2013 - Bob Gretz | No Comments In the days before the 2009 NFL Draft the Chiefs called a press conference to announce that the greatest receiving tight end in NFL history Tony Gonzalez had been traded to the Atlanta Falcons. The deal that then new GM Scott Pioli put together was Gonzalez for a second-round draft choice . . . in 2010. The Chiefs did not even get an immediate payoff in the NFL Draft for giving up one of the best receivers in football. The next year that second-round choice became cornerback-returner Javier Arenas from Alabama. On Wednesday, the Chiefs put an end to that deal after four mediocre seasons from Arenas by trading him to the Arizona Cardinals. In exchange, the Chiefs received fullback Anthony Sherman. That Arenas won’t be going into the season with the Chiefs does not come as a surprise. When the club added Dunta Robinson and Sean Smith in free agency, and then Stanford Commings in the fifth-round of the 2013 Draft, Arenas’ hold on a roster spot became tenuous. So he walks out of Kansas City with the following numbers: 47 games, 12 starts. 149 tackles with 4 sacks. 2 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles, 1 recovered fumble. 105 punt returns for a 9.8-yard average, no touchdowns. 50 kickoff returns for a 19.8-yard average, no touchdowns. 4 rushes on offense for 17 yards and a 5-yard TD run vs. Oakland in 2010. In those same four seasons (2009-12), Gonzalez played in Atlanta with these numbers: 64 games, 63 starts. 326 catches for 328 yards, an average of 10.2 yards per catch, with a long catch of 34 yards. 27 touchdown catches. |

Again, Arenas is a good guy but only a competent CB who likely wouldn't have seen the field much on Reid's team. |

The most interesting part of this trade of bottom of the roster players is that it's a trade of players. That doesn't seem to happen very much.
I have nothing against Arenas, but if Reid/Dorsey see something in this fullback that they really want, I'd rather give up a guy who hopefully wouldn't even make the team with some of the DB additions we've already made than give up draft picks.
