2012 Kansas City Royals Repository Thread
2012 Slogan: Our Time
A better, more accurate 2012 Slogan: It is Finally Next Year (from Great Expectations) An alternative slogan if you don't like that one: Someone has to win this crappy division (from alnorth) With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore. We do not have starting pitching. Oh yeah, we've also got this: Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us. Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here. What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that: Quote:

Pretty interesting article on long-tossing.
Game's top two pitching prospects may be igniting a revolution Some of you might remember back to last year's draft when a couple pitchers basically told several teams not to draft them because they did not want to stop their long-tossing programs. The Royals were among the teams adamantly opposed to long-tossing, but they buckled and reluctantly told them they'd allow it if they drafted them. (Both of them were picked right before the Royals pick, so it never became an issue) Both pitchers are doing awesome in the minors now. Long-tossing was a common old-school part of a pitcher's routine during off days that died out in the 80's because teams thought it was responsible for pitching injuries. Now, people are thinking they had it exactly backwards: a long-toss program could help prevent injuries. The Royals apparently had a change of heart, because the new minor league pitching coordinator believes in the long-toss program and has told our minor league pitchers to go ahead and air it out if they want. Thats probably a good thing, because just about every pitcher we might draft at #5 has a long-toss program, and likely wouldn't want to be drafted by a team who wont let them do it.

Lineups aren't tough. Just make sure that your best three hitters hit 1-3 to maximize their ABs.
Currently, it should be Gordon, Moose, Butler. I don't give a shit about the rest right now. Whatever Trey Yost wants. |

Royals fans are odd in that they always want to blame the wrong guy. Team sucks? Butler grounds into too many DPs!!!!! Isn't clutch!!! Not enough power! Shit, forget that he's one of the best pure hitters in the league. Forget that he's largely been surrounded by trash. It's HIS ****ing fault. |

Probably doesn't mean anything but in Neds post game presser yesterday he was asked if his plan was to have Hoch make his next start and he replied "my plan is to go watch the film and we'll talk tomorrow." So fwiw he didn't commit to Hoch... not that I know who would take his place if he were demoted or the like.

For god's sake.....Jamie Moyer's ERA is currently 4.01.
And he's 87 years old! F Hoch......you can find plenty of scrubs who can deliver a sub-5.00 ERA (Let alone a frickin' 9.00 that Hoch is sporting these days) Unreal.....only the Royals.
