Stadium Watch 2024 -Jackson County Residents: How Are You Voting?

Vote in this poll if you actually live in Jackson county.

We've all shared our opinions in the other thread. But who gives a shit what somebody in Platte County or Johnson County or Phoenix or NYC thinks. We're all just noise.

Denver is building a fancy new stadium for soccer and taking jabs at the same time. 😂

Quote:
“If you build a stadium in a cornfield, you've got a stadium in a cornfield,” said Ewing. “If you build a stadium in a place that already has business, that already has that connectivity, where everyone in Denver already knows how to get to it and probably goes by it on their daily commute, then you're going to see those dollars generate in a different way than you would if you built it out in Timbuktu.”

Somewhat related, but…

How in the hell did KC get the World Cup for 2026? KC will play host to six games over the course of a month next Summer. I’m probably talking out of my ass, but I’m guessing if things go well, KC is gonna see a pretty sizable surge in revenue, activity, tourism of a scale it likely has never seen; especially international, will have a worldwide audience to the likes it has never seen before. Hotels citywide will be sold out. There will be shopping. There will be eating and drinking and loooooots of hookers doing very well.

This month+ long event will likely make several business’ year. I ask again, how the hell did KC make this happen over at least a dozen other major US cities, many of which are way more international, Chicago, Minneapolis, St. Louis, Denver just to name a few in the vicinity.

Shouldn’t this be the goal of mid-tier cities? Getting massive revenue events? Tourism? Rearranging existing infrastructure for the influx which will in turn be better longterm for the city? Maybe KS should throw together a plan to include both the Royals/Chiefs to build massive campuses at Legends. Toss up a half dozen hotels and casinos and a Buccee’s. And watch KCMO turn into Wichita.

Just my opinion, but I hate the idea of the Royals going to Johnson County and I live in KS. I think the almost perfect setting is the Washington Park plan that has been around for 20 years. Baseball is not football. Baseball settling in among the cityscape or at least a solid neighborhood is awesome. It’s part of what makes going to a game in Pittsburgh, Wrigley, Seattle, Cleveland, Detroit, Denver, San Diego, Fenway, Baltimore, etc that much more memorable, cool and fun! You plop a modernized version of Kauffman right there by the WWI monument/park, Union Square, Crown Center, bars/reataurants, just a few blocks south of downtown with existing parking and a stage right or left exit from the game seems almost too good to be true, oh, and add in the cool Western Auto sign in the backdrop? Feels like a no brainer.

I think the Chiefs should move to Legends. Build them whatever they want. Make Jerry weep about Jerry World when he looks upon the future in KS. Preferably a retractable roof and palace that will attract massive year-round events, political conventions, concerts, Super Bowls, Final Four’s, College FB tourney games. Missouri would still do well due to existing infrastructure, hotels, the airport, etc. Again, it feels like a no brainer, and **** it, maybe the Chiefs can even keep a campus at TSC? I dunno what the hell you do there if both teams move to different stadiums. Ffs, it’s been 50+ ****ing years and there has been ZERO development in the area. It’s depressing. I have adored my 40+ years of visiting both stadiums rooting for the Chiefs and Royals, but it is time for change.

$45 million to host it and Denver offered very little financial incentive in the bid. KC used private and public funds from KS and MO. Plus we have massive riots break out at huge soccer games.

Keep it until we get our shit together.

This is my opinion almost to a T. I love Arrowhead with all of my heart and have been going to games there since I was about 7 years old. I can say with 100% certainty that I will still love Arrowhead more even if they build the baddest stadium in history over in KS. But...I'm a realist and understand that the TSC is a complete dead end. I'm fine losing the Chiefs to the KS side. No ones drive should be that much worse and I think the potential for added entertainment the 300 other days of the year the stadium isn't in use is worth the tradeoff.

The Royals on the other hand will be an absolute tragedy if they move to the burbs in OP. I don't care whether the stadium winds up at the original spot everyone assumed (10th and Oak), the Washington Square or in NKC but it needs to be close to downtown and existing entertainment and business.

I think both teams should fire whoever has been in charge of strategizing this whole endeavor for their respective franchises, but I have a feeling the Chiefs have known their plans all along and have more political/financial pull than the Royals. Sherman has been disappointing thus far in both transparency and selling the desire of the team but I have to believe MO won't lose both teams.

Not stadium related, but a similarly funded project in the same area.

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (KCTV) - The American Royal is one step closer to revving up construction again for its new headquarters in Kansas City, Kansas.

Thursday night, May 29, the Wyandotte Commission unanimously approved the American Royal Community Improvement District (CID) on the American Royal property northwest of the Speedway.

An additional 1% sales tax will be collected in the district until 2047 to help pay back the $155 million in STAR bonds used to fund the project.

Construction at the site began in 2023, but as the project expanded and required more funding, work halted.

It must be fun to be in the Kansas legislature knowing that your neighbors to the east are a State that will literally let anything go if it's not in the pet city named St. Louis...

reerun state representative on the local radio this morning saying new stadiums wouldn't help his county residents any. Just would benefit Kansas City only. That's how dumb state reps are.
