The terrorists have won!

Quote:
Earlier Wednesday, Sony pulled the film, which depicts the assassination of North Korea's leader, following a threat that people should avoid going to theaters where "The Interview" is playing. The country's major theater companies had said they had decided to postpone or cancel next week's showing.
"In light of the decision by the majority of our exhibitors not to show the film "The Interview," we have decided not to move forward with the planned December 25 theatrical release," Sony said in its first statement on the matter.
"Sony Pictures has been the victim of an unprecedented criminal assault against our employees, our customers, and our business. ... We are deeply saddened at this brazen effort to suppress the distribution of a movie. ... We stand by our filmmakers and their right to free expression and are extremely disappointed by this outcome."

Easy for him to say. What could Sony make on this now? A billion dollars? That's some pricey PR.

You know what would really complete this story? Sony makes a billion dollars and uses it to hire a private strike force of mercenaries who they send in to kill Kim Jong Un. Film the whole thing and release the sequel.

I'm cool with that...but I doubt that is true. I think the market would adjust. Places like Alamo Drafthouse work regardless of whether a new release is showing. Hell they have MST3K nights that get packed crowds. And sing/quote alongs and all sorts of stuff.

I just have a hard time paying $15 to get in and then $8 for popcorn, $4 for a drink.

Alamo prices - $10 for ticket - $6 BOTTOMLESS popcorn - $4 BOTTOMLESS soda - $2.50 Pabst - $6.50 margarita
...and a full reasonably priced food menu

THAT is a business model that can survive.

Those are the actual prices I paid to see The Hobbit just three days ago at a chain theater in the DC suburbs. Compared to that,

Yep. The big chains are already losing a ton of ground here in Texas. Alamo/Studio Movie Grill/Movie Tavern and taking over.

I like this idea...

http://www.wsj.com/articles/drop-the...ang-1418946773

Basically, have the US govt buy the movie rights and then release it into the public domain. Movie would spread through China and into NK in a week.

Good.

Next time I'm in Austin, whenever that is, drinks and tickets are on me. Double if they're showing a Chiefs game.

They also have a bunch of dates where comedians like Greg Proops and Doug Benson host a viewing any craft either a comedy set or history 'lesson' around the movie they choose.

Doug calls them Benson Interruptions, basically his version of MST3K with a couple of comedian friends.

I went to a party today with a ton of high level entertainment business peeps.

There wasn't one person that thought green lighting this movie was a good idea. Arrogance on the part of Sony and arrogance on the part of Rogen.

Also, apparently, Kim is murdered at the end of this film, onscreen, and in a very gruesome manner.

Take it FWIW.
