Russ Lande says Chiefs should "stick to their board"

Geno Smith has all the tangibles - arm strength, accuracy, athleticism - and has a solid football IQ. He has poor mechanics and footwork. He's super raw and won't be ready to start right away, even in the shotgun NFL. Probably not worth a top 5 pick.

He sees Barkley are the flip side of the same coin - VERY polished, NFL-ready, but tangibles are average. Higher floor, lower ceiling. Would typically be a mid-1st guy (15-20).

He thinks Pioli is going to go with another late-rounder like Stanzi. And he hasn't once said he thinks that's the WRONG idea.

Only Blackbob would hold up Andy Dalton as the TRUE model of a franchise QB that the Chiefs should aspire to draft.

Never have I seen a guy like Dalton get so much head from a fanbase. This place is ****ing obsessed with that guy.

I know it's because the Chiefs were in a position to draft him and we didn't, but for crying out ****ing loud, he's not the second coming of ****ing Joe Montana.

If the Chiefs draft a QB, they should draft a guy who has the potential to be better than what Andy Dalton brings to the table. Not at his level.

Which, again, is a ****ing stupid why we should settle for outside the top 10. Hell, outside the top 5. There are STILL a lot of teams who need QBs, and odds are they're not going to be ****ing pussies like the Chiefs. They're going to trade up and go get a ****ing QB.

In your opinion.

So what you are saying is now that we "HAVE" to take a QB with the first pick, I am not allowed to not like these prospects like you didn't like Weedan?

If we "had" to take a QB with the first pick last year like we "have" to this year, Weedan would have been the guy. This year is no different.

It's a dumb idea. I think we probably have to take one in the first round but we don't have to take one with the first pick.

That's stupid and closed minded imo. it would be dumb to pigeon hole ourselves like that.

I am not obsessed with Andy Dalton. The point is that his potential wasn't much different than Gabbert's or Locker's. It would be great to get better than Andy Dalton but, I think "Andy Dalton" is the best we can hope for out of these 3-4 prospects.

It's OK for the glass to be half full but, it's not OK for it to overflow this year man. There just isn't enough water.

How the order currently stands:

1. Kansas City Chiefs - 1-7 (.547 SOS)
2. Jacksonville Jaguars - 1-7 (.606 SOS)
3. Cleveland Browns - 2-7 (.534 SOS)
4. Carolina Panthers - 2-6 (.582 SOS)
5. St. Louis Rams (via Washington Redskins) - 3-6 (.527 SOS)
6. Tennessee Titans - 3-6 (.616 SOS)
7. Cincinnati Bengals - 3-5 (.418 SOS)
8. New Orleans Saints - 3-5 (.424 SOS)
9. Buffalo Bills - 3-5 (.463 SOS)
10. Oakland Raiders - 3-5 (.500 SOS)
11. St. Louis Rams - 3-5 (.559 SOS)
12. Philadelphia Eagles - 3-5 (.567 SOS)
13. New York Jets - 3-5 (.609 SOS)
14. Dallas Cowboys - 3-5 (.657 SOS)
15. Arizona Cardinals - 4-5 (.533 SOS)
16. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - 4-4 (.388 SOS)
17. San Diego Chargers - 4-4 (.394 SOS)
18. Miami Dolphins - 4-4 (.477 SOS)
19. Detroit Lions - 4-4 (.493 SOS)
20. Minnesota Vikings - 5-4 (.461 SOS)

Teams who NEED a QB likely to trade up to go get a top 3 guy:
Bills
Eagles
Jets
Cardinals

Teams who could possibly grab a QB even though they have someone in place right now:
Saints
Raiders
Cowboys
Titans

And let's not forget the Browns and the Jaguars, who have drafted QBs in the first round the past two seasons, but can't be trusted to pass over somebody.

Conclusion: Know what's REALLY risky? Trading out of that top spot (or spending the pick on a defensive slapdick) with the assumption that a top QB will still be available when we pick next.

That's what I call testing fate. And the Chiefs are NOT in a position to test fate, because fate has ****ed us repeatedly in the ass.

Play the safe option, Blacktard. Take your guy at 1 and be happy you ****ing did.

A very likely draft scenario if the order stayed this way:

1. KC- QB
2. Jacksonville- QB
3. Cleveland- QB

Yeah, let's draft Te'o at #1 overall. Let's do the safe thing and take that guy. We're absolutely going to get a legitimate QB in the first round if we do that!

And if we did something like trade out with the Rams so they could go get a player like Te'o or Jones, we'd still be likely screwed at 5. We can't trust Carolina to not want more picks. They would be sexy trade partners for a team like the Jets or Bills, and I'll betcha they'd take any offer.

No. Enough pussyfooting. The non-QBs in this draft aren't ****ing exceptional must-have guys. There's nothing there that really makes me splooge except for Te'o, and I will NOT risk finally getting a franchise guy just for the sake of some religious adherence to "The Big Board."

So, say you are GM of the Chiefs come April and you have the first pick in the draft and you obviously, as stated, don't like either Smith or Barkley so who are you taking?
