Alice Smith fans still think 5.1 YPA will be good enough to win against the Broncos.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. My prediction for Alice Smith's stats against the Broncos on November 17th: 17-35, 187 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT. CAN'T WAIT. |

Alex Smith is simply a QB who will take the safe throw over the explosive throw every single time, even when the situations at the time call for the explosive throw. That's who he's been as a QB. Plain and simple. If he wants to change now and NOT be that QB, I would love it. I think he would have a shot at being the top 10 kind of starting QB we need to seriously compete. I have strong doubts that will happen, though. How many QBs start out their careers like Alex Smith and then just pick up and change QBing habits just like that when there's a change in coach, team, and/or surrounding players? Drew Brees didn't change the way he plays the game when he went to New Orleans. Neither did Trent Green going from Wash to St. Louis to KC. MAYBE you can make the case for Michael Vick. |

They all lost in Week One, yet they're considered "Gun Slingers".
There isn't "One Way" to win in the NFL. Rivers had 194 yards passing last night in a loss but he's considered, at least on Chiefsplanet, to be "superior" to Alex Smith. The bottom line is that Smith's abilities are a perfect fit for Reid's WCO. Whether they reach the ultimate goal is yet to be seen. But I can't fault Reid and Dorsey for getting "their guy", who to date, looks to be the same exact guy from 2011 and 2012, not the guy from 2005. |

Alex Smith didn't start this way. His second year in the league he was more the gun slinger type because that's who Norv tried to make him be. Then starting in 2009, until last season, he has gotten better every single year. I don't see that changing this year either. I don't think his rating will be over 104, but he is who he is. Super efficient, and the bottom line is, the guy wins. The team around him is good enough right now, that he isn't going to have to be the man very often. Sure, its not pretty, certainly not like Eli throwing for 400 in a loss, or Kap for 400 in a win, or 7 tds. But who really cares except the FF crowd?
