Mahomes injury updates

Minus whale get this one started.

Quote:
Patrick Mahomes Update

Postgame, Coach Andy Reid confirmed ankle sprain for Mahomes. Don't overlook this injury. By video this is not a standard low ankle sprain. This is a not a standard basketball low inversion sprain with predictable recovery.

By video this was a high ankle sprain. Albeit mild and Mahomes is obviously tough. One needs to wait for to see how much swelling occurs overnight and the next few days.

Will know more in the next few days. Expect some missed practice time and this could slow down the 2018 MVP throughout the month of September.

He's leaving pockets when he doesn't need to. The NFL has always been and will always be about winning from the pocket first and foremost.

For sure the OL has struggled and he's gotten hit a lot. But he's gotta feel the pressure and slide around and bit and step up and make people pay.

Yeah, Patrick wants to be great as much as anybody I think. I’m sure he’s working his ass off to fix things, although it’s not entirely his fault.

He just needs some confidence from a strong performance, primarily within the pocket. Andy has to help him out in that regard. More quick game perhaps early on so he can get in a groove.

Mahomes is running for his life "in the pocket!!!" Agree with calling shorter routes.

Wilson 40 Sacks
Murray 46 Sacks
Kyle Allen 44 Sacks
Matty Ice 39 Sacks
Watson 38 Sacks
Rodgers 31
MVP Jackson 22 Sacks
This is a interesting stat.. I thought Jackson would have less.. Patrick is getting rid of the ball better than we think..

He did the same thing last season. Took basically the same OL that Alex consistently took 35-45 sacks behind and only took 26 in his first year as starter. Assuming he didn't get injured this year and extrapolate to week 17, he'd probably only hit low 20s this year as well.

Brady, Peyton and Marino were all really good at avoiding sacks too. It's a pretty important skill.

What he needs is an oline that doesn't get him killed within 2 seconds.

Steve Young was saying today it's hard to simulate stress on the hand in practice because it's throwing off balance from all the angles that stresses the hand. Would be great if this could be a blowout game where some guys get rest in the 4th quarter. Like to see some Matty Ice this week.

So here's the part that surprises me. It doesn't bother me that he bails on pockets. But he just isn't doing the off platform stuff anymore. The last few games have been a weird combo of shit. Shitty field, extreme wind, #1 defense with a hurt hand. Talk about adversity. So in our final stretch when mahomes is finally healthy, think we'll see the return back to this mahomes? I saw some burst in him few weeks ago in Oakland that I hadn't seen in a while. But the wind kind of forced him to step into everything.

Teams are now containing him in the pocket for the most part which now forces him to stay in the pocket and step up which should be no big deal. BUT this is a big deal because our interior o-line is soft and they are getting their crap pushed back clear up to their adam's apple which now does not allow Pat to make 5 or 7 step drops to make deep throws nearly as often. Therefore Andy ends up calling plays that turn Pat into "Checkdown Sally". Pat even said so himself that his mechanics throwing off his back foot has increased. What Pat didn't say but is 'thinking' is "I don't have time nor the opportunity to even step up in the pocket and I don't trust my interior o-line and why I have increased throwing off my back foot". This is totally on the o-line, NOT Pat IMHO.
