I remember my mom crying too. I think that's part of what made the Royals success or failure hit so close to home for me. No one makes my mom cry and is on my good side dammit! **** those Yankees. **** them all to hell.

When we finally got them it was like the rapture happened.

I was one when the Chiefs won the SB. Listening to these stories for a 30 year old is probably like me listening to my uncles' Chiefs stories. I've heard about the Miami playoff game and Len Dawson getting speared by Ted Hendricks so many times I feel like I watched it live.

As near as I can tell, everyone that's ever met George Brett thinks he's an insufferable ass.

Kinda sucks. It's why I've never really had an interest in meeting Ozzie Smith. That way, as far as I'll ever know, my childhood hero was a class-act and all around boy scout.

But for many folks that grew up idolizing George Brett, meeting their hero didn't leave them with warm and fuzzies. I know he was good and shitcanned when I met him and pretty much an obnoxious buffoon. When I told my folks about it, they both said they'd met him a few years earlier and it was the same story - though they think he was sober, just an asshole.

That said - you couldn't find a better guy to emulate between the lines. Brett was the perfect ballplayer, IMO.

Jesus - how can this team be this terrible? It doesn't make a lick of sense. There is too much talent on the team and it's not like they're rolling over and dying like the Ken Harvey days. When you get pitching, you get no hitting. When you get hitting, you get no pitching. It's a team that simply knows how to lose.

You have a ton of talent and I shit you not - Ned Yost is a good manager. There's no reason for the Royals to be anywhere near this terrible.

You guys have one cursed goddamn franchise.
Cleveland series is what is stinking up the joint. Detroit might end up being one of the top 3 teams in all of MLB when its said and done for the year. We got out of California at .500 which is what most had hoped for, we switched series of winning though. I still don't what the hell happened when Cleveland came to KC though and we got swept by Detroit. If we would have shown any life winning 1 or 2 against the Indians, we look to be the average ballclub that we are. Its that simple really. The Royals will sweep some team they aren't suppose to this year later on.

Sadly listening to these storys about the good ol days is all many on CP have for both teams. Here's to reliving some glory for both again soon.

God I'm glad I have Jayhawk basketball.

Interestingly, a Miami playoff game is my most painful sports memory as well. The one with the phantom holding call and Nick Lowery's kick falling a yard short.

I met Brett once and he was a nice guy but everyone I've ever talked to or heard from other than that has said he's an ass. If I caught him on a good day then I'm glad I have that memory.

I've met Frank White twice and he talked to me like we were old friends both times. The first time I even interrupted him during a conversation with friends and asked to take his picture and he kindly obliged. Then I apologized for interrupting and he said it wasn't a problem and thanked me for coming to the game. Frank was before that and has always been my favorite athelete.

For the third time tonight.... I thought we were friends. But fine go off and have your damn frozen treat without me. I don't care. I'm not sensitive.

Seriously, that is my best Royals memory.

Edit: In case some of you don't remember that game, it was the season we started 9-0 or whatever our record was, and as the storms were rolling in that night at the K, Ken Harvey hit a walk-off homer in extra innings. For a few minutes the place felt magical.
Same. The Harvey home-run is the best memory I have as a Royals fan.
