Bill Maas on 610 said he expects Pioli fired this week

Said he expects unprecedented things.

Yes, Aaron Rodgers was amazing that season (and since) but he couldn't have won the Super Bowl without some modicum of talent surrounding him. The Packers rarely screw up their drafts or let productive players leave via free agency.

I can understand your concerns about Rodgers but outside of him, the rest of the team is solid. If you don't give that credit to him, who deserves the credit?

Career highlights:
  • Named director of pro personnel on May 23, 2012. First joined Packers in 2004 as a pro personnel assistant (2004-2008); named assistant director of pro personnel (2008-2010) and assistant director of player personnel (2011).
  • Currently the youngest director of pro personnel in the NFL.
  • The son of former Packers general manager Ron Wolf, Eliot’s scouting career unofficially began at age 10, when he joined his father in film sessions at Lambeau Field.
  • Has worked 20 consecutive Packers drafts (since 1993) and 20 consecutive NFL scouting combines.
  • Graduated from the University of Miami (Fla.) in December 2003 after just 3½ years in order to begin his NFL career before the 2004 NFL Draft.
You realize that your bolded section makes my point, right?

He was 10....ten when he worked his first of '20 consecutive NFL drafts'. He didn't 'work' shit.

And as for about everything else on that resume, you could say the exact same thing about Pioli when Pioli came here. His Patriots teams were winning with WRs playing CB and everyone thought that made him some kind of genius.

No, he just had Tom Brady.

And I'm fairly certain that Pioli was still more instrumental in constructing those Patriots teams than this kid was in building a SB winner when he was 25 and Ron Wolf was running the show. You really think Mike McCarthy is going to let this guy tell him who to draft?

C'mon - Eliot Wolf is a legacy kid that has more red flags around him than Pioli ever had.

I've watched a few of his press conferences and he seems like he's all of those things. He has a college scouting background and currently running drafts for the most successful franchise in the sport. Seems like a very bright guy with an impressive football background and also an impressive educational background.

And anyone who Jerry Reese thinks fondly of is the most ringing endorsement one could have. Best GM in the biz.
the only thing I worry about is what defensive set that Ross would draft. If it's a 4-3 then Hali and Houston are ****ed when it comes to their effectiveness on the field.

For a guy that said he didn't care about GM or coach, your last two posts prove otherwise.

It's too bad that Bill Belichick sat in on token film sessions with his dad because as we all know, that was wasted time.

If and I mean IF Clark fires Pioli mid season it's hard to argue he isn't trying to win.

He went out and got what was thought to be the best GM prospect out there, made him the highest paid guy around and it didn't work so he canned him with 1.5 years left on his deal.

That sounds like pretty solid ownership assuming he doesn't fumble his next choice too.

Made worlds of difference for Todd Haley as well...

I care about the coach.

And I argue a lot.

Tell you what, if Dane Cook over there in Green Bay can come in put together my proposed coaching staff, I'll sign off on him.

I hope he can bring his daddy to Kansas City with him though. Someone's going to have to know how to do more than bring coffee to the coaches and make jello shots.

I never said he wasn't trying to win: I stated that if you're going to emulate the Steelers, the owner must be involved on a day-to-day basis, every day of the year.

If Clark moves his operations to Kansas City and takes up residence at One Arrowhead Drive, I'll believe his statement.

Until then, nope.

Well - my decision is made.

Don Shula for HC!!!!!!

I love me some Marty, but c'mon folks - he's 70 years old. I won't pile on him like some of the mob - he did great things for this franchise and is still one of the top 10-15 NFL head coaches of all time.

But you don't hire a 70 yr old head coach.

If he's smart, which I think he is then he will play to the teams strengths and talents just like Dimitroff in Atlanta. That's the type of guy we need. Can't bring in a guy who only knows how to do it his way and can't be flexible.

But I actually think both Houston and Hali would be fine at DE if it did happen. Would be more worried about finding new linebackers. But there's plenty of other threads for that discussion.

Yep. Just a great franchise.

Still mad at myself for picking the Chiefs over the Giants as a kid.

Most of my buddies and relatives are spoiled and don't know how good they have it being Giant and Yankee fans.

Hali is a very mediocre as a 4-3 DE, and from reports from Georgia Bulldog fans so is Houston.

What credibility does Maas have? 610 this morning kept saying that no one is as connected to the Chiefs as Maas. Not living in KC, is there something I am missing? He's an ex-Chiefs player that likes guns and drugs. Is he still really involved with the Chiefs?
