My Father

Hello CP:

I got word today that my father was taken to the ER with what they suspect was a stroke. Unfortunately, after CT and MRI scans, they found two lesions on his brain. They believe that he has cancer somewhere else in his body and that these lesions have metastasized from that. My family and I are waiting for more word from his doctors.

I am beside myself. My father is an amazing man and until now, in unbelievable health considering his age (70) and what he has been through in his life. We were just on a tropical island together SCUBA and skin diving, with him able to descend on lung power far lower than I.

I don't have any friends except for family. I've never really had the need. But, I feel that need now. If you would, please say a prayer, send good thoughts or anything positive toward my father.

Donger, not sure if you've seen the "Vice" special on cancer treatment by using viruses (including HIV) as a cure, but perhaps you can convince your physician to push your father's case in that direction.

There have been some absolutely amazing clinical results in those trials.

Baby Lee posted the link to it recently and if you have cable it would be in your on demand feature if you have HBO. Since it appears inoperable, and all other options exhausted, I'd see if your pop is willing to give it a go.

Yes, indeed I have. I'm hoping that that is what the trial is going to be.

Donger, prayers to you, your dad, and rest of family. So sorry to hear about this, and hope he is able to pull through, and you are able to get even closer to family and lean on each other.

Hi Everyone:

My Dad was just admitted to the ER. He has lost complete control of his legs and is hallucinating badly. He still recognizes me but he is barely lucid. He also has some kind of issue with his lungs now.

I contemplated not asking for this, but if you would, please say a prayer or send good vibes to my father at this time. I'm really trying very hard to be positive, but I suspect that we're entering into the period that I've been dreading for over a year.

And, if you also would, please say a prayer for my mother. They have been together since the were 14 and 16 (now 70 and 72 respectively), and are the most symbiotic couple that I've ever seen. She has been my father's primary care giver since this all began, and absolutely refuses to cease that care, but it's really taking a toll on her.

On a side note, please do take some time tomorrow to wish your fathers a Happy Father's Day. I have a horrible feeling that this will be my last one to say it to mine, and it would give me some comfort if a I knew that this post has some positives beyond my asking.
