Harrison Butker

I'm not the type to overreact, but Butker is starting to worry me a bit.

He needs to be money in games like this one, and he wasn't.

He’ll figure it out but probably not in time for the playoffs.

But he's barely into his prime at 26 years old, and he could kick another 10 years at a very high level.

I mean, Justin Tucker is the only kicker in the last 6 years that's been better than Butker, and only by 2-3% points, and no one denies that Justin will probably be a HOFer, so why can't Butker someday be in the running?
Still feeling this way?

Why not? Was it Butker's fault Townsend mangled the hold, or that some defender got a hand on the ball? How exactly was he supposed to adjust for that? I'm waiting with bated breath for your answer . . .

Great analysis.

Btw, since you asked, Morten Anderson had 11 seasons kicking FGs at less than 80% for the season. Butker has never had a season kicking less than 88%.

So yeah, I'm still confident that Butker is fine career-wise.

From the knuckle ball trajectory the ball took I'd go with 'deflected' but not 'blocked'.

Splitting hairs, I know.

Good to see that. I mean, I don't like that it was blocked, but at least we know it wasn't him, or the hold, this time.

Kent Swanson on Twitter is showing pics that the ball was placed on the wrong side of the hash. It seems to line up with butker talking to Townsend after the kick pointing to the ground. That could have been just enough to affect the trajectory.

I think Townsend is a big part of the problem. While it’s not ideal the rest of this season it hopefully means a lot of his problem is easily fixable. Townsends a good punter. Let him punt. Get someone else to hold. We’ve seen plenty of evidence for 2 years that something isn’t right with the snap/hold. There just isn’t any excuse to not be perfect at this.
