Big friggen deal, you made a post after you got slaughtered, congratulations. You want a fan of the year award because you can take lumps. It's called reality and I'm sorry if your world doesn't allow reality to set in. Reality is that I've watched three Laker championship teams the last three years and this team doesn't even come close to last years team and couldn't shine the shoes of the teams in 2001 and 2000. I said two months ago that I just felt the Lakers weren't good enough this year to repeat. Winning back to back championships is hard enough, winning four in a row is a damn miracle. When every one in the west gets better and you stay the same year in and year out, it eventually catches up with you. I haven't quit on this team, I have become realistic about their chances this year. This is not the same Lakers team and I can recognize that. I think San Antonio is the better team this year. They obviously have the Lakers number by beating them six times in a row. I will still watch the game tomorrow night and root for the Lakers. But I realize it will take a miracle for them to come back and win 4 of the next 5 against a team that has their number. Again, I apologize for allowing reality to set in.

Fair enough, Bad Guy. Personally, I'd keep believing until the ride ends (especially when you have Shaq and Kobe), but we have a difference in opinion... understood and respected.

Speaking of rescuing this thread.......
![]() Page 1 when the Lakers get stomped, Page 7 when they win. Where's Adam when you need to be saved? What a difference a few nights make between the fortunes of the Kings and Lakers, huh? As "predicted" yesterday in a prior thread (ask Adam for the exact quotation), the Lake Show came out on a mission and throttled the Boot Accessorizors. Hell, even the #1 Laker Fan was ready to take out a "Few Good Men" (i.e. the refs) with his "You can't handle the truth" as they attempted to kick him off the court. Speaking of "The Shining".... Where did Bowen, Gianoble, and Parker go last night? All that strutting in Game #2 is out the window. Talk about deer in the headlights expressions. As now we have the Kings debacle. (BTW, where is Adam's comments about CWebb being OFFICIALLY out for the year?) I guess the only lumps he is willing to take are those phony losses to the Greybeards and Cigars that mean nothing until the Conference Finals where they will meet a REAL team. Break out the Grape Kool-Aid farmers. Your Title hopes just went crashing to the floor with that phantom ACL. Oh that's right, the Kings have so much "depth" they will overcome losing their ONLY inside presence. This injury don't mean "Jack" (not Nicholson) against the defenseless Cuban Cigars. But how are you going to contain Big Daddy or the Twin Towers in the Finals? Scott Pollard? Keon Clark? The Bearded Fish? ![]() But enough about those pretending pseudo Champs in Cowtown. The NBA Championship is being played this week and I look for the soon to be 4-time Champs to even the series going back to Texas. Game #5 will be H-U-G-E It's all good in Lakerland...... ![]()

When you predict the the Lakers will win the Chmapionship (this is now the 4th straight year BTW), I wound venture a guess that those proverbial tree limbs keep getting weaker each time. At least I put my neck out there (unlike our infamous broom salesmen in Wolfville). ![]() Feel free to pull up a few predictions that actually happened to provide some balanced perspective. Unless you are still obsessesd with the "score to settle" mantra these Kool-Aid drinkers keep chanting. ![]()

Wow, I've been watching some of the NBA playoffs, initially because there was nothing else on, but I discovered they're a great sleep aid.
I've been getting lots of sleep lately. BOOOOOOOORRRRIIIIIINNNNGGG

7:11 your time last night, just as the story broke, check out who broke the news on the Planet about Webber's season ending injury. http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showt...threadid=59948 So there goes my hiding in the face of bad news. I'm eager to know where you were after Games 1 and 2 of the Spurs series.... As for losing Webber, why lie? It f'n kills us that he's gone. Webber was having his best postseason yet, stepping up his game in all aspects of the game.. even his FT shooting wasn't as nightmarish as expected. Kings just lost their best player (though Peja has had an awesome postseason too) and you're right, Cal. He's the man for the Kings inside. No Webber means the Kings now become even more of a jumpshooting team in the playoffs and that's not what wins championships. Although... For the Mavs series, the Kings must still remain committed to ripping apart the Mavs interior D, or lack thereof. They went away from it in Game 2 after building a 20-10 lead and very foolishly allowed to be caught in a macho streetball game which plays right into the Mavs hands. Found out in a big way playing that way is poison for any team playing the Mavs. They still will run the offense through Divac, who has notoriously stepped up his game when Webber has been out with injuries (which unfortuantely has been quite often lately). However, he's no spring chicken and sooner or later, he won't be able to get it done when you expect to see him get it done. They have Pollard, Clark for starters. I'd start Clark because he brings athletic ability and quickness which resemble Webber. Playing Divac and Pollard together against Dallas must mean one thing... Eastern Conference style halfcourt, take the air out of the ball kind of basketball... for if it's high-paced, the Kings become too slow. The wild card is Hedo. As his minutes rise, I really expect him not to let the Kings down... this injury is a statement now for Hedo to show what a mistake it has been to have him off the rotation. He should be very fiery every game... and should the Kings advance (I still believe this is a winnable series with the Kings having homecourt now), he's going to be a difference maker. In the future, we needed Webber to help answer the dominance Shaq presents. In the Spurs case, to help answer the greatness Duncan presents. In either case, the Kings have definitely gone from potential favorites to clear underdogs. For the Kings, in the past when Webber has been hurt, the entire team does play better. It's a mystery as to why and I am NOT advocating the Kings are better without Webber, for they definitely are not. But the Kings respond well to adversity caused by injuries. If you had one 12 man team, comprised of the best players in the world, one can make the case that Peja makes the team (not as a starter, but on the roster), Bibby was on this team last year but he's not now, for he has been inconsistent in these playoffs... absolutely MUST change starting tonight. These two can be our bread and butter on offense. As far as the rest, I am not expecting Bobby Jackson to be Mr. 6th Man right away from a broken cheekbone... I'm expecting intensity, but not the fearless game he brings. Jim Jackson has to step up, for it's very apparent Christie is as bad an offensive liability as any team has in the playoffs, he's becoming sort of a backcourt version of Rodman (all defense, no offense) and that's bad. We'll never see him, but I sure would love to see a bit of Gerald Wallace... the kid can play. We'll find out soon enough how much the Kings have left in them....

Thought Game 3's winner would likely win this series... it certainly appears that Dallas is in the driver's seat now.
Every year, as the Kings championship dreams go up in smoke, there always is at least one game that is a "punch to the balls" type of loss. In 1999, vs the Jazz, Games 4 (Stockton's shot with 0.8 seconds) and 5 (losing an OT heartbreaker). Not really much in 2000 and 2001, it went down kinda painless. But in 2002, vs the Lakers, Games 4 and 7. This year, if the Mavs win the series (and the series has drastically swung in favor of the Mavs to win), Game 2 (because of the Webber injury much moreso than the 83 the Mavs dropped on us in the 1st half) and Game 3 (blowing yet another game at home) are the games which will sicken me. Between the Kings and the Chiefs playoff losses in 1997, 1995, and 1990, there's been a lot of torment...

Believe it or not, I was a much bigger fan of the Lakers when they weren't winning championships. The 1998 team will probably go down as my favorite team because of the true talent that team had. Shaq, Elden Campbell, Jones, Kobe, Van Exel, Fox, Fisher, it was just truly an incredible team that couldn't win because of coaching. Van Exel was by far my favorite Laker. With the Chiefs sucking ass since 1997, if LA didn't win something I would of taken the bridge. Stick in there man. It's only 2-1.

Despite my intense dislike for the Kings, I still see them beating the Cuban Cigars as they are too streaky and inconsistent. Freaking Walt Williams going off was akin to Bruce Bowen's 27 points in Game #2 against the Lakers. It won't happen again the rest of the series. So you pick your poison at this point. Is it better to win this series and get beaten in the Finals (no C-Webb = no way against the Spurs/Lakers), OR.... Lose to the Cigars and watch them get killed in the Finals? The Lake Show will even the series this afternoon before the BIG GAME in Tejas on Tuesday night. The NBA Champion will be crowned in Game #5 (unless the Spurs pull a Sacktown Meltdown a lose in 7). Pay close to attention to the bricks being tossed up by the Parkers, Gianobles, Jacksons, and Bowens as the series gets tighter. Far too easy to jack up shots in games that have no meaning. Let's see who has the nads when the Title in is the balance.
