Kind of an old white soccer version of a young Alan Iverson.

I'm always open to new interests. I just need a personal connection to make me care about a club team. I've been following international soccer since I was in the third grade. I watch the occasional EPL or La Liga game out of appreciation for the game but with absolutely zero rooting interest.

I just found a club that I could decently fabricate a connection to: Royal Excelsior Virton. They come from my favorite province in my favorite European country (Luxembourg province, Belgium) AND my hometown is Excelsior Springs, MO. But this team is apparently the Pittsburgh Pirates of the Belgian Second Division (man, that sounds pitiful. And it is.), and I have enough perennial losers in my life already, so that's out.

I can't really do the game justice right now as I'm completely exhausted and emotionally drained from this week. Still...

Everyone knows it but starting Clark was a mistake. It's tough to call Coach Sweatsuit out because he made some good tactical choices throughout the Cup but Clark lacks intuition in distribution and has the tendency to clatter people down much too often. The mistake was rectified in the early Edu sub but at the cost of being able to stick in fresh legs later in the game when they were needed.

Dempsey played his ass off. You could tell how much this meant to him, to all of them. I won't accuse him of not giving it all when he pulls on the Nat jersey.

Onward and upward hopefully. I hate the wait till next year thing but there are some younger promising players for the US, Altidore, Torres, Edu, Davies etc.

Out of those who didn't figure in this World Cup, I'm forward to seeing how guys like Lichaj, Bedoya, Agbossoumonde, Orozco, Diskerud and McInerney develop.
