The Chargers are preseason champs once again!

https://www.usatoday.com/story/sport...rs/1681106001/

Relevant portion:

Quote:
Los Angeles Chargers (12-4): If they can finally stave off the injury bug — Bosa, TE Hunter Henry and LB Denzel Perryman have their fingers crossed — the Bolts have as much talent as any team, particularly at the skill positions. They're also battle-tested — let's be honest, they basically play in front of a hostile crowd every week — capable of winning in any environment, to include a Super Bowl audience in South Florida on Feb. 2. (And wouldn't it be kinda nice to see Philip Rivers join 2004 draft mates Eli Manning and Ben Roethlisberger on the championship dais?)

Kansas City Chiefs (11-5): Will an overhauled defense jell quickly? Can league MVP Patrick Mahomes possibly approach the mind-boggling production he managed in his first year as a starter? Are the off-field distractions at an end with the NFL choosing not to suspend WR Tyreek Hill? Lots of questions, though K.C. is equipped to provide correct answers between the lines. Early tests as AFC West champs open with three of four on the road.
He also has the Colts beating the Chiefs in the wild card round.

If you ask me, this Nate Davis guy is a real dipshit dumbass!!!!!!

Wouldn't it be kind of nice if people would shut the **** up about specific athletes winning championships?

Good god... it was insufferable that people tried to turn the NFL MVP this past season into a career achievement award so that Brees could win.

Wouldn't it be nice if Marino got a ring? Jim Kelly? Fran Tarkenton? How about other positions besides QB? Anybody give a shit when a pro football HOF tackle like Willie Roaf didn't even make a championship game? How Randy Moss was on a 16-0 team and lost? How Calvin Johnson was the chosen one for years at his position in the NFL and never did anything? How arguably the greatest RB of all time in Barry Sanders only made the playoffs twice in his career and never won a playoff game? Did the Steelers really really need that extra Super Bowl and couldn't they have just let the Cardinals have that one so they could join the Saints and Bucs as historically awful teams who were at least able to pull out one championship? Granted, the Cardinals got jobbed in that outcome, but that doesn't mean they DESERVED it.

You think Philip Rivers deserves one because the other douches from 2004 have two rings? If we're playing the sports pity party game, how the **** do you think Marty Schottenheimer feels? At least that poor man can't remember any of his heartbreaking failures in the last years of his life! How do you think Charles Barkley feels every time he broadcasts during the NBA playoffs and has to listen to Kenny and Shaq talk about the times they won rings?

Philip Rivers, take a goddamn number. We'll get to you on the pity list eventually. You're number 84502, and we're on number 214. You might want to go find a book to read. You're gonna be waiting awhile until we give a shit about you.

More Chiefs / Chargers facts:

Kansas City is one of three teams with a winning record against all of their divisional opponents with 100-plus head-to-head games played (along with the Dallas Cowboys and the Green Bay Packers).

The Los Angeles Chargers are one of only two teams with a losing record against all of their divisional opponents with 100-plus head-to-head games played (along with the Detroit Lions). This holds true as of the end of the 2018 season.

I love how he says that they're battle tested... they've lost. All the battles... they've lost them all. Just because a team has gotten to a point consistently and lost doesn't mean they're battle tested. It means they know how to lose, and Philip Rivers is the shining example of that as he's built his entire career off losing.

Great Post!

Philip Rivers is wildly overrated.

Exhibit A: His career playoff record is 3-4.

Exhibit B: He has never played in a Super Bowl.

Exhibit C: His career playoff stats are as follows:

Game 1 (Loss, 24-21 vs. New England): 14-32, 230 YD, 0 TD, 1 INT.

Game 2 (Win, 17-6 vs. Tennessee): 19-30, 292 YD, 1TD, 1 INT.

Game 3 (Win, 28-24 vs. Indianapolis): 14-19, 264 YD, 3 TD, 1 INT.

Game 4 (Loss, 21-12 vs. New England): 19-37, 211 YD, 0 TD, 2 INT.

Game 5 (Win, 23-17 vs. Indianapolis): 20-36, 217 YD, 0 TD, 1 INT.

Game 6 (Loss, 35-24 vs. Pittsburgh): 21-35, 308 YD, 3 TD, 1 INT.

Game 7 (Loss, 17-14 vs. NYJ): 27-40, 298 YD, 1 TD, 2 INT.

For those scoring at home, that’s at best three solid performances in seven postseason games.

Rivers is good for 4,500 yards, 30 TDS, and 15 picks a year. While that’s pretty good, it’s exactly that...pretty good.

We know the ceiling for that offense. It’s what they do every year. He’s not going to bust out a 4,800 yard, 45 TD, and 10 pick season. That’s just not the QB that he is.

Add a pretty good offense with essentially no home field advantage whatsoever, and you’re looking at a wild card team. A wild card team will not win 3 straight road games (two of which will need to be against the Chiefs and Patriots) with no bye before the playoffs. It won’t happen.

They’ll probably be in the 9-7 to 11-5 range again and get bounced early. That’s what pretty good teams do.

"Battle Tested" is a metaphor, Mr. Gravedigger. It means, "Getting Your Sh*t Repeatedly Kicked In."

I used it for decades while referring to the Chiefs.
