2016 KC Chiefs Goat(s)

Every year there a few Chiefs who I start out being kind of "down" on. You know, guys who are supposed to be better than their performance, or new guys who you just can't warm up to.....so, you don't exactly hate 'em, but you watch them with suspicion.

Examples of prior such "goats" include:

Alex - Too darned risk averse (i.e. deflated balls)
Fisher - Expected more of a #1 pick
Ford - Terrible at everything except first step
Wilson - Won't dive for the ball
Sorensen - Not fast enough
Parker - Misses too many tackles
DAT - Timid
Fleming - Too toasty
Gaines - Brittle
Santos - Any kicker can qualify to be disliked with a couple of bad kicks
Colquitt - See above
Etc.

Anyway, this year, the guy I'm most "down" on is Mr Dee Ford. I think the guy has a ton of physical talent, but I question his football IQ and his dedication to the sport. Yeah, perhaps he's a new man this year, but I'm gonna have to see it to believe it.

Second on my list this year is DAT. Hard to fathom what the heck happened at the end of last year. Does the guy really want to be here?

My third guy is Knile Davis. Guy has some talent, but puts the ball on the rug way too much. Hold onto the fricking ball!

So, who do you have a wayward eye on this year? Fire away, lads.

He was fine and it was his best season as a receiver.

I tend to think "outstanding" as a running back is 1,500 yards or more on the ground.

You should change your criteria for an outstanding season, especially considering the direction this league is heading.

Dude had 19 TDs in 2013 and, IIRC, 14 TDs in 2014. If you include his TDs in the limited time he played in 2015, he's averaging more than a TD per game over the past 3 seasons. That's better than outstanding- that's ****ing PHENOMENAL.

Playing ILB and 3-4 DE is a whole different ballgame, though.

Dude would have to have a 15 yard YPC. He's not going to get 1500 on the ground again. You need to include catches, Reid likes the old throwing handoff.

My CP overreaction meltdown nominations are

Steven Nelson and the rookie CBs. As soon as one of them gets scored on, the meltdown will begin and the suggestions that XXX Rookie can't be worse.

Yup, I think that in general, CP isn't wild about Nelson so his selection as a meltdown candidate makes a lot of sense. Personally, I think he's gonna be just fine. Wish I had the same feeling about Ford.

Interesting that no one has mentioned Alex -- what a difference a year makes!

I'm not sure what you're talking about. Both Houston and Charles tore knee ligaments.

Especially since Houston has had a lot less time to heal, and this was Charles' second knee injury....very optimistic to expect both to be 100% this year.

You were using position for your argument, and I'm saying that's bullshit and if anything their age and a worse injury just proves my point.

It's not bullshit. Lower body injuries affect a RB and pass rusher significantly more than an ILB and 3-4 DE.

In DeVito's case, he wasn't the same player, either, and is no longer on the team.

Expecting our two best players to return at top form is something of a pipe dream.

How so when the Broncos just got Harris and Milller back two years ago from ACL surgeries with the same time frame as Houston?

Charles tore his ACL all the way back in week 4 and was already getting work on the field in OTA's.

Guys are consistently coming back from ACL injuries with no issues these days.

You're full of shit.

Harris and Miller are younger players.

And, as I've said, it's the second knee injury for both of these guys.

When the **** did Houston have another knee injury? You mean shoulder?

As for Charles, I disagree, but he's icing on the cake at this point. The Chiefs are playing with house money at RB. Even with just Ware and West, we'll have one of the best rushing offenses in the NFL with an improved OL from last year to go with it. With Charles even at 80% of what he was, it's the best in the league hands down.
