DV interview: Bell won't play this week

I heard clips on 610.

Said it's his shoulder, but wouldn't give any details...mainlyl sounded like he was blowing smoke.

allow me one paragraph of panic:

[panic]Bell hasn't had contact since last season. What injury does he have that is miraculously going to heal in 2 weeks, without surgery?

This offseason looks a lot different if you think of Bell as a cripple. We didn't sign Rolle because of his narrow urethra, but we signed Bell and he still can't handle contact on his shoulder??

I am concerned. Without him our defense upgrade doesn't look near as impressive.[/panic]

ok, going to take a deep breath now

Actually, since our LBs were pathetic, both inside and outside, I wouldn't have freaked about signing Hartwell.

As it stands right now, I'm still really concerned about the middle of our D.

He was a 4-3 backer at Georgia so it's not like he's never ever done it before.

Yep. And then Rolle fails ours and passes the Ravens. Reason? Contract posturing. The reverse happened with Bell. We held all the cards and he was grateful and eager to sign a deal.

The diference between Hartwell and Bell when they play is simple. Bell makes plays and Hartwell is more of a stable player. It's personal preference, but me personally I'll go with the playmaker.

You guys are being overdramatic if this was the regular season he'd be suiting up and playing. The guy has played with injuries before the injury has to be severe to keep him out of games in the regular season.

I want to believe that, but he has had NO contact in camp. None.

DJ, Mitchell, and Bell haven't played together in a contact situation. How are they supposed to gel?

Something is wrong. Lots of players in camp have injuries and still hit.

Oh, I see...It's a good thing that they keep saying he's too injured for full-contact drills or games...

That's a load off my mind....

The difference between Hartwell and Bell this season is Hartwell will be playing and Bell will not. I'll go with the player that actually plays.

Bell is in a new scheme and he needs all the reps he can get - especially if he's going to be counted on as a leader. There is no way to spin this in a positive way so just stop.

on a lighter note, he's a camp tidbit from warpaint....lol at Gun:

"Linebacker Kendrell Bell looked good this morning, although not allowed to make full contact yet, his speed and awareness were apparent in 7 on 7 pass coverage drills.

Running Back Larry Johnson was impressive, scoring on a run up the middle. Even if there had been tackling in this scrimmage it appeared Johnson would have scored. This drew the ire of Defensive Coordinator Gunther Cunningham, who grabbed linebacker Boomer Grigsby and nearly threw him off his feet, telling Grigsby he would tolerate no more excuses for not lining up properly and adjusting to the shifts of the offense.

A few plays later, Cunningham literally ran into the line of scrimmage causing the snap to be delayed as he screamed at his linebackers. If Quarterback Damon Huard hadn’t seen Cunningham and had snapped the ball, it could have been dangerous for the Defensive Coordinator, who was so focused on his defenders he either didn’t realize or didn’t care about the physical jeopardy he was in by running into the line just before the snap.
This will not be an easy week for Chiefs defensive personnel, as Cunningham seems to have turned it up a notch, a notion that didn’t seem possible to this reporter."

That's purely speculation.

Bells important, very important, so DV is being light with him. You're damned if you do damned if you don't I guess. He's coming back from being injured last year so they're light with him and everyone flips out. If he was out there playing alot, I could see all the posts about how we're gonna get him injured in preseason.

As far as gelling together goes, Bell is the one I'm the least worried about of those 3. He's a proven player in this league the other 2 aren't.

I'll be concerned if this is the talk going into the Jets game as of now, I'm not worried.

Might be speculation but it is looking more likely based on the events thus far.

Look, Bell is not going to be playing with the Steelers - he's going to be playing with a bunch of reeruns so he needs all the time with them that he can get.

well, here's another tidbit...at least Bell is practising...Wilkerson sounds motivated, I'm glad Allen got benched:

"Brett Williams played Left Tackle this morning, and Left Defensive End Jimmy Wilkerson was beating him badly on almost every play. Wilkerson has played well all camp, but smells the opportunity for a starting assignment and took Williams to school this morning with intense effort and flawless technique.

Safety Greg Wesley and Linebacker Kendrell Bell teamed up to stop a running play in the backfield for a loss."
