I injured my back last year. My wife called the abulance because I couldn't even get up to get in car. The paramedics came and assisted me into the abulance for a short little ride to the emergency room where I recieved two shots in the ass of demerol and a prescription for percoset (which I enjoyed BTW). The ride to the fuking hospital was about a mile and a half. My share of the total bill was about $600 dollars. I think the total bill was over 2 grand. I just could not fuggin believe that a 1 mile ride in an abulance, two shots and prescription costed so much. I was appalled.

One day last year I suddenly experienced numbness in both arms, and it didn't go away. After a couple of hours I went to the emergency room. The total bill for being there for about four hours was nearly $3,000, $550 of which came out of my pocket. After I was there about half an hour, the numbness went away (and never came back). They never did determine the cause, although I suspect it was probably a pinched nerve. But all that money and time, and they basically did NOTHING other than poke and prod and siphon my fucking blood.

If that ever happens again, I'll probably just stay home. Hopefully that won't result in my death, but at this point, unless I'm bleeding out of my eyes or in screaming pain, I'm just going to ride it out. To hell with getting financially assraped by the scumfuck hospital. I'll just take my chances. If that's the cost of the first night, seriously, I can't afford to be sick, whether I am or not. Who can?

And I have Blue Cross/Blue Shield. According to the commercials these evile fucks run on the radio every day, I'm as safe as a babe in his mother's arms. Yeah, right.

Every year healthcare costs go up and healthcare benefits go down. All of us (excepting those who are made of money) are one serious medical problem away from financial ruin - especially after our Republican friends rammed the new bankruptcy laws through.

Just another nail in the coffin of the American middle class. We are most definitely an endangered species.

You are correct. The middle class in this country is vanishing before our very eyes.

Also, I hate to say it, but I am probably going to take a similar tact regarding medical visits. I'm not poor, but I refuse to shell out 600 bucks for the treatment I received last time. I'll just have to tough it out. I could spend that 600 on much better things.

Yeah, God knows that generation did not carry the water for you before you were an income earner, fuck em.

You do realize that the baby boom generation is so huge that if you exclude them your health care benefits are going to go up astronomically because the young healthy (as you describe it) class is too friggen small.

No "generation" ever gave me a penny. My PARENTS took care of me until I was out on my own. I'm fine with taking care of my parents (though I seriously doubt I'd need to). Hell, I'd be fine paying for my grandmothers' care.

As for the baby boomer group being so huge, I fail to see how having a huge group of people sucking on the system that is currently partially funded by (but will soon enough be entirely funded by in the case of socialist insecurity ) a class that is "too friggin small" makes it MORE solvent or LESS expensive.

Because about 2/3 of the Baby Boomer generation is still working (it runs through 1965) and many will be for another 20 years. Hell I will be working for another 10 to 12 and I was born in 55. So you think all those kids out there when you were growing up did not need medical insurance? Do you let your kids go uninsured?

Although those percosets would almost be worth it.

I continued to take them even after my back was healed. I'm glad I didn't get the prescription refilled. I definately would have been hooked if I had.
