Lamar Hunt Memorial

I went to the service today. It was very nicely done. Three of his four children spoke about their Dad. Quite a few of the players from the past were there. Marty and Donnie Edwards paid their respects.

Not many fans showed up....

that's a horrible place to send the message, IMO...

I had to work today--that, and I had no clue the memorial was today, or I'd have been there

Work I understand, however do you think that many people thought it would be so full that they would not get in? Just a thought...I'm glad you got to go.

Perhaps if it was on Saturday it would have been a different turnout, its not to hard to get off work for a close relative, but for someone you only knew threw the media I guess would be a little more difficult.

I was honestly expecting more fans to show up in Dallas but there was only a handful. They didnt pick a very good time for the KC service though leading to its problem, but then again when were they suppose to hold it?

Thanks.

That is not many. I just saw a shot of the crowd and it was pretty empty. I think having it during the middle of the week was one of the reasons for the small crowd. Though talking to some of my friends that live in KC they all feel Lamar never was from here and he was only here on Sundays and never really got involved with the community. I hear that alot from people.

When DT died there was thousands of people who showed up and I think a large part of that was DT was very involved in the community and he was out and about alot.

I want to apologize if my post was misunderstood. I wasn't trying to castigate Chief fans, just thought people would want to know.

I think that maybe the flame on this team and owner has flickered out.

I think there were a number of reasons for low turnout.
Midweek afternoon and Christmas week
Fear that it was going to be full
Chiefs blowing games
but if people did not believe he was a part of this community they would have changed their mind after the presentations and stories that were given. I didn't know half of what Lamar has done in this community and the stories from his hospital bed about his favorite place on earth, which by the way was Arrowhead.

He just didn't blow his own horn which may have given the fans the idea that he didn't care.

I walked away with a much greater appreciation for Lamar Hunt then I ever had before. One of his last words from the hospital was GO CHIEFS!! He really did care about the fans and I for one will hold his memory and my chance to have net him as one of the highpoints in my life.

Its unfortunate that there wasn't a better turnout....but I'll assume that the memorial being during the week, just prior to a major holiday, when vacations are already scheduled and everyone has things to finish up before the holiday, if not working for them, had something to do with it.

As much of a community minded person and contributor to society as Lamar was, one thing that has struck me just a little wrong, was that the only 2 options for memorials for Chief fans to contribute.....were in Dallas.

I noticed that as well.

I didn't attend. I didn't know Lamar beyond a few cursory meetings. If I had known him, I'd have certainly attended.

Thanks Weirdwolf. I know Lamar loved KC but I think alot of people didn't like the fact he was an out-of-town owner. That is also one of the biggest complaints about David Glass as well. People in KC want the owners to live here.
