Senior Bowl Updates

From rotoworld

Rutgers FB/H-Back Brian Leonard wants to play tailback in the NFL.

NFL Network's Mike Mayock says Leonard dropped 12 pounds between the season and the Senior Bowl to get fit. The Eagles have already been mentioned as having interest in Leonard as a possible change of pace.

Troy Smith measured in at an even 6-0 at the Senior Bowl.

Many were concerned that Smith might measure 5-11 or even 5-10, so this is a solid height for him as he tries to prove himself first-day worthy.

Louisville DT Amobi Okoye measured in at 6-2/287 at the Senior Bowl.

The 19-year-old was listed in the 300-pound range in college, so the weight is down but he reportedly looked like a rock. A certain first-day pick, Okoye may need to play the three technique early in his pro career.

Looks like the Chiefs are talking to Jonathan Wade-CB Tennessee, according to Scott Wright's (NFL Draft Countdown) player-team observations.

Anybody know anything about him? I didn't see Tennessee play but once or twice this year...

Anyone else notice how Okoye dropped 13 pounds in 13 posts?

Or how Corey Chavous plays for the Vikings?

Tells me everything I need to know about this so called "feedback."

[QUOTE]

It was very humid in Mobile; it was like Africa hot.

Kind of frightening that the "reporter" watched Quinn receive his hospitality bag and then followed him into a restroom to see what he was doing.

I love it when people just make shit up.

"Okoye looks about 274.....let's run with it."

Dude probably isn't even in Mobile.

Hmmmmm.

Maybe I'll do Training Camp reports from my office instead of making the trip to RF.......

Scott Wright's noon blog entry...our coach is working and he got a chance to talk to Okoye about his weight.

• 12:00pm - Just got done with the first practice and I am going to go right to work on the report as soon as I finish with this. It was an eventful morning and the big names were out in force. In addition to all the scouts Tom Coughlin, Jack Del Rio and Herm Edwards were making the rounds, I ran into the venerable Frank Coyle of Draft Insiders' Digest and no Senior Bowl experience is complete without the obligatory Drew Rosenhaus sighting. I also had a chance to talk with Amobi Okoye about his weight after the practice so look for that in the report and there will be a BIG list of player / team observations tonight. Anyway, I am going to type that up and it should be live before the South practice starts this afternoon at 1:45pm.

Some interesting stuff in his morning practice report regarding some stuff we've talked about here:

http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/fea.../north123.html

Quote:
Ohio State's Troy Smith is clearly the cream of the crop and he tosses a nice ball and showed the ability make all the throws
Quote:
so far the story of the week has been Troy Smith, who in my mind is clearly emerging as the #3 rated quarterback in this draft.
Quote:
fullback Brian Leonard continues to stand out as a receiver as well, looking very smooth and natural in that aspect of the game and making me wonder if he can't be an H-Back in the mold of Chris Cooley or Garrett Mills as well.
Quote:
Scott Chandler of Iowa consistently made plays again as well
Quote:
Levi Brown of Penn St. and James Marten of Boston College had quick feet in drills while Dan Mozes of West Virginia and Marshal Yanda of Iowa did not and Brown also moved laterally very well.
Quote:
Notre Dame's Ryan Harris struggled with his technique and received lots of coaching and Manuel Ramirez of Texas Tech is big, thick and looked good today.
Quote:
Okoye also said teams have spoken to him about the possibility of bulking up but in my mind there's now very little doubt that he's not a nose tackle and would be best as a 3-technique in the NFL.
Quote:
Cal's Brandon Mebane also looked good again today showing good power and playing with excellent leverage.
Quote:
At linebacker Paul Posluszny of Penn St. is good in forward pursuit and aggressive but did not make a fluid turn in coverage.

From NFLDraftcountdown on the CB the Chiefs are lookin at ...

Jonathan Wade
Height: 6-0 | Weight: 195 | 40-Time: 4.45

Strengths:
Has good size and a solid build...A smooth athlete with fluid hips...Excellent speed with great quickness and a burst...Is able to recover from mistakes...Physical and aggressive...Gives good effort as a tackler...Had a nice senior campaign...Still has lots of upside and may flourish now that he is completely focused on the gridiron.

Weaknesses:
Inconsistent and doesn't always play up to his physical tools...Doesn't have great instincts or awareness...Has some health and durability concerns...His ball skills are not what you'd expect from a former wideout...Still raw and needs some work when it comes to technique...Is he just a track guy playing football or vise versa?

Notes:
Started his college career as a wide receiver and didn't move to defense full time until 2004...Was a member of two of the three fastest 4x100M relay teams in Vols history...Redshirted in 2003 after having surgery for a shoulder injury...Could get drafted earlier than expected based on his immense potential...He has everything you look for from a physical standpoint and really just needs to put it all together

Scott Wright hasn't posted his Player/Team list for today yet, but his afternoon practice notes included this little tidbit:

Tony Ugoh of Arkansas also showed great strength and power.

Yea, if a player like Ugoh comes forward, the Chiefs have to consider him....they are desparate at OT...

By the way, I assume Wright or draftdaddy.com won't have Joe Thomas on the Chiefs list...looks like big Joe skipped the Senior Bowl

Can't say I blame him, considering he got injured badly playing defensive end the Badgers 2005 Bowl Game

Wright has them up and here is who he has listed under player/team observations for us:

Kevin Kolb
Ryan Harris
Drew Stanton
Dwayne Bowe
Mansfield Wrotto
Tony Hunt

David Irons isn't here on this one though. But, Wright was really high on David Irons in his report. And from the brief bit they showed of him on the NFLN, he was impressive.
