WR in the 1st or the 2nd?

Projected 1st round WRs*:

Dwayne Bowe
Dwayne Jarrett
Robert Meachem
Ted Ginn
Sidney Rice

Projected 2nd round WRs:

Anthony Gonzalez
Steve Smith
Craig Davis
Jason Hill

Is there that much of a difference between the first rounders and the second rounders?

I've been trumpeting our need to draft a WR in the 1st, but after scanning that group of likely 2nd rounders, I'm starting to waver. Was looking for your thoughts on the disparity between the first rounders and the second rounders. It doesn't look that bad.

*Calvin Johnson excluded, since the Chiefs have no chance at him.

For the players projected to be available in the first at our pick, I think WR is the value pick. I'll take Jarrett, Rice, or Bowe over The Road Warrior's kid.

And I, too, will be good with it if we go corner in the first.

It's gonna depend on what value is available at other positions.

I think DT and OL help are probably out of reach at #23, but CB and LB might have value there.

I'm fine with just about anybody on either of those lists, 1st or 2nd round.

depends on how the draft falls

i still don't see why everyone is so set on having our "Run the ball and play defense" Head Coach take a WR so early.

seriously ....... why take a position your not gonna use very much?

Easy every good smash mouth offense has a primetime target, and ours is Gonzo but he can't play forever.KC needs to find a young playmaker at the WR position, and if that player is the BPA in the 1st it would stupid not to pick him PERIOD.

Wide Receiver is one of our biggest needs year-to-year because this organization hasn't made a serious commitment to improving that position.

We need to take a Wide Receiver no later than the 2nd Round. We can't keep putting that position off. We have nothing there. I'm all for giving Webb a shot to prove himself, but I don't know why everyone is so high on Chris Hannon.

We can't keep ignoring that spot.

DT, WR...
Those should be our #1 and #2 picks.

A much improved passing game? The Cardinals now have two Pro-Bowl Caliber receivers they just can't get further than 2 yards down the field on running plays. The Lions have one of the biggest play threats in the league in Roy Williams, but again a crappy running game. We have the running game and I think most would agree here that we need another dimension to the offense that we saw last year.

I'm not saying that all of their picks worked out, but they are certainly in a much better spot at that position than we are. I don't think drafting WR in multiple drafts is going to fix our problem, but I also don't think that you can get by trying to hit it big with low round draft picks for the entire WR corps.

This has seriously gotten to the point of stupidity.

Herm and Vermeil were with their respective teams the same exact amount of time, and you apparently haven't bothered to look at the numbers.

Herm better used his WR's than Dick Vermeil did. In fact, without Priest Holmes and future HoF'er Tony Gonzales, Vermeil's vaunted passing attack would not have even been CLOSE to Herm's.

Since the Chiefs can't seem to draft a good WR and also tend to miss on the 2nd round pick (recent exception Pollard), I propose all future 2nd round picks go to WR just for efficiency.

Comparing any Herm led offense with DVs Chiefs offense is like comparing high school footbal to the NFL and saying high schools run the ball better because they generate more rushing yards per game. The Chiefs had a TE that caught 100 balls and led the NFL in offense. Who the hell cares if they didn't throw to the WRs every play? I would imagine San Diegos offense in 2006 looks about the same as DV's statwise sa far as WR catch...but they were still at the top in offense.

The statement was made that Herm didn't know how to use a WR. Nothing was said about the overall offense AT ALL. He said, and I quote, "why take a position your not gonna use very much". The stats don't lie, Herm used his WR's more than Vermeil, yet everyone wanted Vermeil to draft a WR. It's nice to see that you don't have problems with double-standards.

As for Tony Gonzales, it's a good thing he was there prior to Vermeil's arrival. Otherwise, his 5 years would have been a COMPLETE failure rather than just a half-failure.

Ahh I gotcha. In that case I believe you're correct. It's something you see with other play action offenses....they tend not to spread the field and send multiple receivers out on patterns so the WRs need to be really good in order to get open.

oh sure ....... lets not take into account that the chiefs had already paid their tightend like a number 1 receiver.

vermeil and company made due with what they had while he continue to try(and fail) to get defensive talent.

but hey ....... of course you're right, history proves that

so lets just go after those wide receivers and then you can make excuses all year about how it's the offensive line that is the problem, not herm or the WR's.

just like all of last year

year 2009 ...... we'll still be looking for an offensive good enough to make Herm's offense not look like shit.

After watching our draft from last year unfold, I'm 100% convinced that Herm & Co are going to do a much better job drafting than any of us around here.....

Also, as far as who's going to be available. Nobody thought DJ would fall to us, most thought Hali would be long gone, or that he was a huge reach. How any of you know who will or won't be there outside of the top 5 or 6 guys is beyond me.

That said, I'm one guy in the draft defense (hope) camp. I want to see KC's D return to what it was in the 90's. Many Super Bowl teams have proven that a great D is way more important that a great O.

You still need atleast a competent offense unless you have a record setting defense and those rarely come around.
