Oklahoma Advice Needed

I have an offer for a great job based in Oklahoma, and am in need of advice from those who know the state. I would likely be able to live in either OKC or Tulsa. From my very limited knowledge, it seems like Tulsa is a prettier place overall, but I suppose OKC has its' benefits too.

I have 2 kids, ages 7 & 10, so schools will play an important part in the decision. I've lived in KC most of my life, so any comparisons/contrasts there would be appreciated. Thanks!

If you are into HS football, Jenks is one of the better programs in the nation year in and year out.

Also, another observation, if you are planning on watching KC on network broadcast, go to Tulsa. The OKC media opted out of showing somewhere around 6-7 games. I think all were showed in Tulsa.

Did you just wade out of the shallow end of the gene pool, Clevis? If it were named 'F" street, how would you know if it was east of Main or west of main? That is why we use Frankfort for east and Fresno for west. I realize this may be more than your atrophied brain can process but do the best you can, OK?

Let's see the National Science Fair winner is from OKC. They have good magnet schools in science. The Norman campus of OU is 30 minutes from OKC. Stovall Museum has wonderful collection. The surburb schools are pretty good. You got triple A baseball, a better State Fair, Lake Hefner if you like sailing. A good chance at the NBA Sonics. The Capitol and Governor's house. And that place that use to make King Chicken mmmm. I dated girls from Tulsa and I don't have anything bad to say about Tulsa. I just think the choice isn't nearly so clear cut.

I will add that either place is going to be hot and dry. OKC is on the Great Plains so trees do take more work. Get use to Tornadoes but the great thing is that they will usually be during daylight and not catch you in the middle of the night like in Missouri, Arkansas and further east. And you can see them pretty far off.

The people are the friendliest in the country.

You're bragging about being near Zero U? I was using them as a negative for OKC. Had any F-5 tornadoes lately? We haven't.

Now see this is what you get from Tulsans. They think they have it all. They are little myopic about the strengths in the rest of the state.

Man, you beat me to it. Plus, almost all the Chiefs games were broadcast the last couple of years. In 2005, I only had to use my Sunday Ticket to watch 1 or 2 Chiefs games. I didn't have it in '06 because I worked on Sundays.

But the points tiptap makes are all pretty valid.

Haha. I have focused on Tulsa's strengths rather than OKC's weaknesses. But a Science Fair winner? A chance at a sports team? Did you wave buh-bye to the Hornets last night? A nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there.

If you like high school sports then Tulsa is definitely the place to be. Union and Jenks are the typical powerhouse football teams in the state with Owasso, Bixby and Union having some of the best baseball in the state. A lot of these teams are also ranked nationally each year and get regional TV coverage. I have only lived in Oklahoma (Owasso) for a couple of years but high school sports in the Tulsa area is pretty impressive.

Exactly right. The Union vs Jenks football game can fill up Skelly Stadium while TU can not. Those are two of the best HS football teams in the nation.

Don't know if others noticed, but this was an outright owning by Skip. Bunny went running and has not returned.

I'm still laughing reading this exchange. Bunny came in all high and mighty with a 'novel' idea, Skip quickly put an end to that.
