DeSean Jackson

I'm curious if people would be upset if the Chiefs drafted him in the 5-8 range (assume Long and Dorsey are off the board).

I look at him as the explosive touchdown / big-play maker that this team desperately needs. The team right now has no explosive open-field player who can take the ball all the way every time he touches it. Bowe, Gonzalez, LJ, and Kolby are all move-the-chain types - they're not explosive. Plus big plays on special teams determine so many close games, as the Bears showed last year. I think he's a much more polished receiver than Ted Ginn was last year, coming from Tedford's pro-style offense. And remember Herm's first draft pick as a head coach was Santana Moss, who won many games for him with big punt returns and catches.

I watched Desean Jackson a little bit this year, and he is explosive.
He's got game. He has the quickness, and can dance around guys. He's got moves no doubt. I love his explosiveness in the open field. we don't have that on our team. I definately think he would help in the return game. But, I just don't view that as a number 1 priority on our team.
Yeah I would be a little disappointed if we drafted him in the 1st round because our receiving core is pretty solid. Don't get me wrong, I think the Chiefs could use a #2 WR, but Im not sold taking a WR with the 1st pick. If we take a WR the 2nd, or 3rd round pick then that'd be cool.

I wouldn't be crushed if we brought him in, especially if Doresy and Ellis are gone. We can draft good Olineman in rounds 2-4.

Against USC, the best team in the Pac 10

2005 1 rec, 9 yards
2006 2 rec, 41 yards: 2 punt returns, 13 yards
2007 5 rec 64 yards: 1 punt return, 0 yards

ZERO Touchdowns

And we want to draft him in the first round ?

DeSean likes to run his mouth then not show up...This is a guy that didn't go to SC because they wouldn't give him #1...um Mike Williams was on the team at the time.

We need big plays. A team built around defense with an explosive change the field punt returner is a great combination:

See 2006 Bears with Devin Hester
See 2000 Ravens with Jermaine Lewis

Devin Hester had 4 punt returns for scores in college. DeSean Jackson has had 6, even though he's only done the job for a year and a half (he's only a junior and he's been hurt half this year. As a freshman, he only returned 1 punt - and it went for a touchdown). Plus as I said before he's a skilled receiver coming from a pro-style system.

Now we clearly don't have a defense like those others teams. So I'd be happy taking Sedrick Ellis as well. But I think Jackson should not be discounted. He's the guy I want if Dorsey, Ellis, and Long are all off the board.

Absolutely not. If we don't draft a OL in the first round, I will not bother to watch any of the games next year until the next draft.

Jackson in most mocks has been going in the 20's. Major reach. He could slip into the second, which I wouldnt mind taking him then.

I realize we all want to find a comparison for the college kids coming into the draft, but comparing Jackson to Hester is like comparing Brohm to Peyton Manning. Similar skill sets in college, but you're comparing him to an all-time NFL player. Not a fair comparison. People thought Ginn at the very least would be an elite returner, and he hasn't been despite his physical characteristics. I think Jackson is too big a reach that early. Give me a big athletic guy in the top 10.

Our WR's were better than our OL, we wouldn't be in such a mess if we drafted a OL last year, and a WR in the second.
