Green do's and dont's

Some posters were saying Green didn't do well.

I saw Green nail snoooooop on 3rd and 15 for a first down.
I saw Green run for a first down on 4th and 10.
I saw Green execute the two minute drill with a beautiful pass, with an AWESOME catch in the corner of the endzone.

I have high expectations, but not unrealistic ones...For his first game....I thought he did pretty damn well.

Yes, and reason why was the WR's weren't running the correct routes, and they weren't catching the ball when it got their. Green made it happen on 4th and 10, because of that reason.

Green did not have his best game by far. However saying that he did keep us in the game and gave us a chance to win. On the last drive that they scored the touchdown on is what I am talking about. Ok think of this situation had it happened last year. 1:52 to go in the game Grbac would have gotten us in the red zone then with a wide open Alexander in the end zone on 4th down and goal he throws a two yard pass to Tony G. Chiefs turn the ball over on downs. So my point is Green is better just give him a couple of games.

Can't get too excited when someone criticizes Mikhael. It'a all about being able to accept those criticisms.

I just wouldn't want you to take it personally. Keep in mind the majority of these folks who inexplicably think they know what it takes probably didn't even make the cut in high school.

Please don't think I'm pimping Green. But let's realistic, this is the FIRST time he has opened a season as a starter, and undeniably in a town that is DYING for QB that is a leader. He is the only reason we still had a chance. He did things that Elvis never could. He alluded a sack, and kept the drive alive. On the proir drive, he drove us down into field goal range. Two consecutive drives, in crunch time. I can't believe that these intangibles aren't an improvement.

Lack of a running game dictated this game.

Considering us bottom feeders kept the predicted division champs close, I think says more about them than us.

ChiefPriority,

"Yes, and reason why was the WR's weren't running the correct routes, and they weren't catching the ball when it got their."

I just stated what happened. 14 POOR passes happened. Now, recievers not running the correct routes might just be WHY that happened. Realistically, it's very possible a rookie and a vet in a new offense could be responsible. It is a lot to stuff in your brain to be totally prepared by week one. That's a good point.

However, "and they weren't catching the ball when it got their" does not explain a poorly thrown pass. I addressed poor passes, not poor qb numbers. The recievers did a pretty poor job of bringing the ball in after the throw, you are correct. But that doesn't explain why uncatchable passes were thrown. Running the wrong routes could, but not failing to catch a ball that's impossible to catch. That was what I was addressing by the 14 passes.

Either way, I see your point. Our wr's need to collectively get it together in a hurry...:(

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

When you've abandoned your running game, every pass is not going to be perfect. First game, and already he's being ripped.

Who does he have continuous repititon with? Snoop, MR, and Gonzo. That's it. In camp , he was throwing to Thomas, mayes...Where are they now? We are not strong at wide reciever, we do NOT have breakaway speed, and until we do, we need to stick with the above mentioned in our game plan, along with giving DA and TG time to get their timing down.

I ripped a poor performance...He performed poorly. That doesn't mean I don't support the guy, or like him, but he played like ****.

ChiefPriority brought up a good point. It happened with Grbac and it's happening with Green, YOU HAVE to have confidence in and familarity with your wr's...He hasn't gotten to that point yet. That's obvious. It takes time. It might take all season, who knows.

I'm willing to be patient. I'm willing to give DV two years to make the playoffs. I'm not even asking for a winning record this year, just a team that can compete each week and keeps getting better.

But I won't pretend our team played better than it did. Green played bad, and other than the pass blocking, our entire offense looked bad. Just like DV said himself, the defense is ahead of the offense. It showed.

:(

Not to mention they have never used the non-vanilla offense in a game before! It seemed like when they got into a rythym and there were no stupid errors like bad snaps or dropped balls Green did really good. I am going to watch the tape again for sure. Hopefully this was what the team needed and our coaching staff can make adjustments! :)

Green will continue to look pretty damn average if our OL can't open up a running lane.

I'm not excusing Trent, but like Stevie said, it sure is nice to have a QB who can run the two minute offense. No running game, new system, #1 receiver is lame, #2 receiver in his first NFL game - you can see why our offense sputtered.

My favorite part was when Dick grabbed the playbook, pulled Green aside, yelled at him and then tossed his headphones. Oh wait, that was Marty ...:D
