Willis McGahee

As I was watching Willis McGahee lay there on the ground knocked out, all I could here was the Steeler fans cheering, hooting and hollering over the Television. Then they started playing music to the crowd! Reminded me of when the Eagles fans cheered when Michael Irvin did his head dive into the carpet.. Why hasn't anyone brought this to the attention of the media? I thought the Steeler Organization had some class..

initially, the knee injury.

but when it took FOREVER to get him onto the cart, and when they finally did and his arms were still in the same gimpy position as right after he took the hit, the head-to-head seemed a lot mroe creepy.

IIRC, I recall one of the announcers bringing up the fact, and the other mentioned that there is no penalty for 'helmet to helmet contact.'

FWIW.

I think they said something about it when making a tackle...I think the helmet to helmet stuff is for "helpless" targets like the QB, a punter, or a receiver when breaking up a pass or something.

The knee, not even close. I cringe to this day when I see that.

Nothing jumped out at you about yesterday's hit other than the violent nature of it. There was nothing visibly disturbing about the hit. I guess I've been desensitized by pro football, but you see guys get their bell rung pretty badly about every week now. His arms and legs were moving while on the field, it looked to me like nothing but a wicked concussion

McGahee expected to make full recovery after HELMET-TO-HELMET hit
Associated Press

OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- Ravens running back Willis McGahee is expected to make a "complete recovery" from a fierce helmet-to-helmet hit in the AFC championship game that saw him carted off the field.

McGahee returned to his Baltimore home Monday after spending the night in a Pittsburgh hospital recovering from Sunday's collision with Steelers safety Ryan Clark.

Steelers 23, Ravens 14

The play occurred in the fourth quarter of Pittsburgh's 23-14 victory, and McGahee was carted from the field on a stretcher.

"It is expected that Willis will have a complete recovery from the head and neck injuries he suffered last night," Ravens spokesman Kevin Byrne said Monday.

Although McGahee had significant neck pain, he had movement in his arms and legs after the hit. He was taken to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital and held overnight for observation. He was released early Monday morning and back home by early afternoon.

McGahee had just caught a pass and taken two steps before being met by Clark, who drove his helmet into McGahee's facemask. McGahee's head snapped back, and he lost the ball as he dropped to the ground.

Clark also collapsed, though it was immediately apparent that his injury wasn't serious.

Players from both teams gathered around McGahee, who lay motionless before being taken away.

"I started getting a little emotional when I saw him down there and the cart was coming out. That's the nature of this rivalry," Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger said after the game.

Starting at tailback in place of the banged up Le'Ron McClain, McGahee ran for 60 yards and two touchdowns.

It seemed like everyone was cheering for the big hit and fumble recovery, but they quieted down the situation became apparent. I don't know how loud the music was live, but it didn't seem too bad on TV.
