Life What's wrong with my throat/tonsils? - Page 2

It all started around three or so weeks ago. Every so often my throat would hurt, nothing major. Well, eight days ago it started hurting non stop. On a scale of 1-10 pain wise I'd only give it around a 5 especially if my mouth was dry. I don't have any health insurance so I've been hoping it would go away by itself. Well I brushed my teeth yesterday and a couple thick gobs of blood came out of my mouth when I was done. Today I felt something on the back of my tongue so I looked and again a gob of blood. I just used warm salt water to clean out my mouth and again blood. It looks like my left tonsil or right above it (starts with an a) is bleeding. It sounds like its getting serious.

Am I going to have to cave in and go to the doctor? I honestly don't have much money for it. My girlfriend, her pre-med friend and my mom insist on me going.

If you are bleeding from any orifice do you really need to ask if medical help is necessary or prudent? It is rule #17 in life right after "Don't turn your back on bears, men you have wronged and male turkeys in mating season."

i've bleed from the ears on occasion

By the way, a good rule of life is to see a doctor if you're bleeding from the mouth.

I totally missed that. I meant otolaryngologist. I don't know why I always get those two words mixed up. I guess my ornithologist class scarred me more than I thought it had. Worst class I took in college. Apparently I still haven't been able to get over it.

A shot in the ass of antibiotic will cure your tonsilitis and that drip from your hangdown. A 2fer!

Well, if you don't have the money up front, no doctor will be willing to see you. It sounds like you have already identified the problem as tonsilitis so you don't need a second opinion anyway.

You need to get your sharpest knife from the kitchen drawer and run some hot water on it to disinfect. Then go to the bathroom and look in the mirror and open your mouth as wide as possible. Carefully cut the infected tonsil out . Remember that looking in the mirror everything is reversed, so if you get the wrong one first then you'll have to remove both tonsils.

Normally I wouldn't expect it to bleed much longer than an hour or two. Gargle with peroxide when the bleeding stops. You might want to have some aspirin on hand.
