Bears land 2007 No. 4 pick Adams from Bucs

Gaines Adams-DL-Bears Oct. 16 - 8:45 pm et

Bears acquired DE Gaines Adams from the Buccaneers in exchange for what is believed to be a 2010 second-round draft pick.
While Bucs GM Mark Dominik mails in the season by dealing off his most gifted pass rusher and nearing insertion of an underclassman rookie QB, Bears GM Jerry Angelo is in the talent acquisition business. Trading first-day picks isn't advised, except when the return is a 26-year-old with dominating ability and a contract through 2012. Jim Bates, who's clearly lost his touch, couldn't get enough out of Adams in his first season as Bucs defensive coordinator. It's a good bet that Bears defensive line coach Rod Marinelli will.

Trading Deadline approaching...

A second in 2010 is essentially, using historical norms, a first in 2011, or what the Fade paid for Seymour.

The Bears clearly aren't going to have a busy first day of the Draft next year...

You'd have two playmakers that you gave up three picks for. Jesus Christ, I'd be ecstatic.

Of course, we may have a different QB there...

In no way would I ever imply I wished Carl and Herm stuck around, but tell me that's not what our defense would've looked like this year with Mark Sanchez at QB.

**** that. I'm staying in the 4-3 and adding one of those safeties. You'd have two playmakers in the secondary, two elite prospects on the front 4, and one guy who is looking like a Pro Bowl LB.

Well....

It is, but we'd also have a lot more cap room.

Sanchez+Mauluga=60 million
Jackson+Cassel=120 million

**** you, 2009 draft!! **** YOU!!!

Well, we're stuck in the 34.

Is there any reason that Adams couldn't have transitioned to OLB in this defense and done a better job than Hali?

He's a lot faster both in long runs and short bursts.

No. ATL offered a second. We have no idea if Tampa did. They paid a second to CLE for Chosen One. Doug Williams is pals with KW the first.

You dumb sonofabitch, we have the second now.

Pioli couldn't have offered said second for Adams today?

I think Hamas nailed it a while back when he talked about the commodity of players in each scheme. So many teams have converted that NE switched back to a 4-3 to maximize on the talent pool.

Forcing a team to move to a 3-4 the way the Chiefs did was crazy. That's not to say that the current regime won't succeed but they're definitely not pretending like they give a shit about this year, or next year for that matter.

They are rebuilding for the future, and that makes 2008 a complete waste. Everyone pining for the Chiefs to lose to get a top 5 pick can kiss it goodbye. And the top 3 pick this year? ****, it's ad nauseum at this point. This all may pay off later, but it's ****ing frustrating as shit right now.

My point, exactly.

You add Gaines Adams this year, draft Taylor Mays (my preference) in the first, and Kris O'Dowd in the second (Atlanta's pick, based on Wlter's mock), and that's a great first three picks.
