Food and Drink A question for deer hunters - Page 2

Yesterday I look out my window down on a parking lot of the building next to mine and see a pickup with 2 decent size deer in the bed. This was at about 4:00 PM yesterday. This morning I look down again to check out the morning dumpster divers and I see the same pickup still in the same spot with the deer.

Is it common to leave the deer laying out like that? It is 50 degrees outside. Would the meat still be useable? I can see the gang of wild cats and their 3 legged dog from the gutter lurking around the truck.

If they aren't field dressed they're useless. In this weather you can go about twenty four hours but they need to be at the locker pretty darn quick. When it's close to freezing you can leave them hanging for a week, but you've got to get the guts, heart, lungs, etc out and hose them out. I have a feeling those deer where shot just to be shot. That or to make all the neighborhood kids cry.

I always hang mine afterwards, not leave em laying around.
