Satellite Radio

I'm looking for feedback both good/bad "love it"/"it sucks" on what Chiefs Planet thinks about satellite radio (XM/Sirius). How good is the reception, can you still get a signal in a typical office building, do you enjoy the music/talk/sports/etc channel selection available?

The reason I looked into XM in the first place is because the Royals are going to be off the air this season in Des Moines (and I wont have to worry about not getting the chiefs next season either). As I looked into it more, XM seemed to be cool enough to keep all year, but I have no experience with it beyond the obviously-biased sales pitch they throw at you.

(I didnt post this in the multimedia board because this seems to be more of a "product review" type of question than a "this game/movie/song" is cool topic)

I enjoy listening to all kinds of stuff on the radio, so I've really enjoyed my XM car radio subscription. I also got XM radio online, so I can listen to most of the stations via the internet when I'm not in the car. However, XM radio online doesn't let you get some things, like the Major League Baseball games, so I ended up buying a MLB.com subscription so that I can listen to those when I'm not in my car. Anyway, if you're a radio fan, you'll probably love XM. In addition to the baseball and other sports programming, there's at least 10 music stations that I listen to regularly, all of the comedy channels are enjoyable, there's plenty of political talk radio, the specialized stations (e.g. for truckers and for medical professionals) are peculiarly interesting to me and I really enjoy the classic radio (shows from radio's golden age) and the public radio exchange, which has programming of the sort that Ira Glass features in his "This American Life" program, except maybe a little bit weirder.

Given how little trouble I have with the satellite receiver in my car, I'd imagine that home- and office-based receivers would give you very reliable reception.

So, all and all, I'm a big XM fan.

I love my satellite radio. If you road trip at all it really shines. The only time I had any trouble with reception is while cruising the Blue Ridge Pkwy. The canopy of trees messed with the reception.

agreed....I bought an xm receiver when it first came out...then went with Sirius later on...

One thing that I despised was some of the channels on sirius (I'm guessing the channels that they consider less-popular)...the signal is compressed even more than normal. So, if you're favorite channels happen to be more obscure (based on sirius' ratings I guess) - the sound could end up being really shi**y as opposed to average.

I've had both...and it seems like XM's sound is a tad better...but I like the programming on siruis better.

I have XM with Best of Sirius and absolutely love it. Only listen in the car, though. Won't go back to regular radio.

Currently jamming to Lithium station in the kitchen.

It's amazing. I got one a couple months ago. I'm on the road around 8 hours every day for work so it's completely worth the monthly fee to me. Talk radio is a lot better because it isn't censored and they can talk about whatever. The Howard Stern show is hours of entertainment. Can't wait for the Tiger Woods mistress pageant Wednesday.

I've had Sirius for the past 4 years or so. Haven't listened to off-air radio since. Just take the extra time to do a direct connection into your stereo (ie. aux input or direct FM injection).

I have had Sirius since 2004. Love it, couldn't imagine not having it. I have it both in my car and on my Stiletto. I still listen to Soren Petro but that is it as far as AM Radio.
