Mega tradedown Mock
Okay, its a Saturday and I'm bored. A while back the thought occurred to me (hell someone probably posted it here) that there is a slim chance that we could trade down twice inside the top 10. Since I think we're going after Dan Williams, I thought I'd chart it out and see what we'd net in picks. And of course, I then had to mock it up using the CBS Player ranking for approximate available players.
The Bills have 9 picks, the Browns have 10 and we have 8. There are a lot of players I like that are likely to go in rounds 4 and later. After trading down twice with the Browns & Bills, the Chiefs net picks 86, 108, 135, 141, 179 & 217, based on the draft pick value chart. Chiefs trade down with Cleveland from 5 to 7 nets them the 86th & 135th picks. Point value KC's 5 = 1700 pts. CLE's 7=1500, 86=160, 135=38.5. 1698.5 points total. Chiefs trade down with Buffalo from 7 to 9 nets them picks 9, 108, 141, 179, 217. Point value KC's 7=1500, Buffalos 9=1350, 108=78, 141=35.5, 179=20.8, 217=5.6. Total = 1489.9. Chances are, we wouldn't want 14 picks in the draft and would use some of them to trade up. Just having fun though. Round 1, Pick# 9 - Dan Williams, NT The 31st ranked rushing defense gets their run stopper. Round 2, Pick# 4 - Carlos Dunlap, DE/OLB How well he fits into a 3-4 OLB role is debatable. His stock slid thanks to the DUI. Round 2, Pick# 18 - Nate Allen, FS Missing out on Berry hurt, this position desperately needs to be upgraded. Round 3, Pick# 5 - Sean Lee, ILB The Chiefs were horrible against the run for more than one reason. Round 3, Pick# 22 - Taylor Price, WR Stud WR added to a team needing a lot of help. Round 4, Pick# 7 - Clay Harbor, TE Best pro prospect to ever come out of Missouri State. Round 4, Pick# 12 - Kam Chancellor, SS Thumper against the run to help at an area of need for KC. Romeo coached him in the Shrine game. Round 5, Pick# 7 - John Skelton, QB Small school stud getting a lot of hype for a good reason. Probably won't get past the Texans in round 4 since his uncle is a part owner. Round 5, Pick# 9 - Kyle Calloway, RT A road grader capable of beating out the crap on the squad right now at RT. Round 5, Pick# 13 - Dezmon Briscoe, WR Chiefs are still desperately seeking help on the WR front. Round 5, Pick# 15 - Eric Olsen, C Charlie finally gets one of his guys and the Chiefs get a new center for the next 10+ years. Round 5, Pick# 17 - Jamar Chaney, ILB A little bit small, his plus side in a 3-4 is his former time as WLB and play on passing downs. Round 6, Pick# 19 - Kevin Basped, DE/OLB Everything about his size & speed suggests he's capable of playing OLB in a 3-4. Only had 9.5 sacks in 09 thanks to a nagging knee injury. Round 7, Pick# 25 - Denario Alexander, WR Another case of an injury guy worth taking at this point. If all the WR's from this draft pan out, the Chiefs WR group goes from a position of weakness to strength in a fairly short time period. |
