Battle for the top two AFC seeds

The current standings:

1. 10-2 New England
2. 9-3 Pittsburgh
3. 8-4 Kansas City
4. 7-5 Jacksonville
5. 9-3 New York
6. 8-4 Baltimore.

Remaining tough games for New England:

Chicago, Green Bay, Miami

Remaining tough games for Baltimore:

Houston, New Orleans

Remaining tough games for New York:

Miami, Pitt, Chicago

Remaining tough games for Pitt:

New England, Baltimore, New York

Remaining tough games for KC:

San Diego, Tennessee

Notice that the other contenders on this list are going to play each other. A lot. It's entirely possible these teams could cannibalize each other while we sit back and laugh and reap the reward.

If the Chiefs take care of business and beat the losers on their schedule we could very well claim a first-round bye.

Just realize that this is destiny, folks.

We're destined to go 13-3, claim one of the top two seeds and lose in the first playoff game with our shitbag QB.

It's tradition.

By the way, is it just me or is New England the quietest 6-1 team ever?

As Bill Simmons pointed out last week... every NFL season in the current format, there has been a team that jumps 5+ wins from the previous year and gets a first round bye. According to him, it's either gotta be us... or either Pittsburgh or the Jets going 14-2. And then they both went and lost their 2nd game this past weekend.

It's all about match ups. If we get a bye and/or the ball bounces our way similar to that of Arizona in 08...wow...the city would be on cloud 9. Can you imagine?

The Buccaneers are the only other team I think that would have a legit shot at that statistic. Not that it has to come true. Atlanta could also do it by going 14-2.

we are a better version of last years Jets team...

better running game, better QB play (sadly), better coaching (this oughtta rile up the Rex Ryan fanboys)...and a comparable defense.

Good Grief, possibilities and realities are different man, completely different.

Let's just win the next game and move on from there, way too many things to get ironed out with this team.

Eh, our pass rush isn't as good as the Jets, and that's usually a major key come playoff time. If not the most important thing.

Although on the flipside, I don't know that there's going to be any offensive juggernauts in this year's playoffs. Nothing like that Saints, Colts or Vikings of last year. Some very good QB's, absolutely, but even the Colts and Patriots aren't quite as explosive as previous years. Big Ben is clutch but they're a power offense. Sanchez and especially Flacco have something to prove.

Agreed though, it's too early to get ahead of ourselves. But so far this whole season has been so washed out it's playing to our favor.

The purpose of the thread is to track our competition for the top two seeds all year long. That way we know who we need to beat or who we need to see lose to whom.

The reality is right now we are in competition for the 2nd seed.

We have a cake schedule compared to the rest of that list. Seattle sucks but the Rams might be good w/Randy Moss in there...)

There's no requirement to beat teams with winning records to get a bye.

Damn, just win, it takes care of itself. Nobody on that list is going to win the rest of their games, too much parity.
