DraftPlanet/CasinoPlanet: A Proposal

Every year, we have the debate about when (and if) Draft Planet and Casino Planet should be hidden from the top and when (and if) they should be brought back. This has all been discussed ad nauseum around here, so I won't reiterate everything, but the basic idea is that there's not a LOT of talk in the regular season about the draft (though there is some), and there's not a LOT of talk in the offseason about fantasy sports (though there is some). So, it would be nice to have them both available year-round, but doing so adds another subforum to an already large list at the top of the Lounge. (Yes, you can hide them, but 90% of people don't, and they'd still be there for guests and the like.)

After a brief chat about it in the mod forum, we'd like to propose that the two forums be combined into one, but left up year-round. We'll add prefixes to the forum so that the different topics can be distinguished from each other and filtered if desired. It won't be the cleanest combination ever, but I think it'll be manageable given that people are already used to the hodgepodge of topics they sort through in the Lounge anyway and that the activity in those forums is comparatively low anyway.

Anyway, this thread is mainly to see if there are any strong objections to doing so. I might add a poll to this thread later if necessary, but the current thinking is that we'll do it unless a bunch of people hate it.

Discus.

My only concern is when we do mock drafts and the like. It'd be nice to have a special mod for that subforum so they can change stuff up in the thread as need be.

Other than that I see no problem. Although I think it's absolutely idiotic that some people bitch about the clutter of subforums before they get to the lounge, and I'd love to be able to piss them off.

Draftplanet and Casinoplanet couldn't be more different.

Leave them separate, leave them both up at the top, but give people the option to hide whatever subforums they want.

Simple.

To clarify, Dartgod, OTWP and Hamas will all have mod powers in there as they do in their respective forums now. I'm trying to see what options we have for more than basic mod powers in the software, but I'll wait to figure that out until the combination happens (if it does) first.

I agree it would be idiotic to complain about subforums at the top.

While true, you could say the same about religion and politics. Not to mention discussions about movies vs. how to remove a virus.

The issue with the option to hide the subforums is that there's no way to default forums to "hidden" in the software, so new users and people who aren't observant have a shit ton up there.

The Casino/Draft/Religion/Virus/Movie/Politics sub-forum!

The question is more about the audience and not the topics...

Is there enough overlap with those two forums and the people using them? I would say yes off-hand but I haven't really looked in to it.

On a related topic... DaFace, I bet I can find a way to auto-hide subforums as well. If you want, I'll look in to it.

Feel free. I'd bet we could do a mass hiding for new peeps pretty easily with a simple query, but I could never figure out how to edit default settings for new users.

I vote I don't care.

I just bookmarked the Lounge, very rarely venture into any of the subforums and have never noticed any clutter at the top of my screen.

I know one thing, I don't want to have to sift through dumb betting threads to read about draft prospects.

That's a fair criticism. I guess the thinking is that the two topics are active primarily at different times of the year, so it wouldn't be an issue. The prefixes would also help some, but not entirely.

I suppose there's an option in here of doing a non-destructive "merge" of the two where we leave all the old stuff in one forum or another and give it a try for a year. We'd have to figure out the details of how to make that work, but it might be possible if we're nervous that it might suck.
