J Gilbert's and J Alexander's are both excellent.
Never been to Lonestar. Don't like prime rib. Will check out Plaza III.

I don't know about that any longer. Rumors in Lee's Summit is the best steakhouse in the KC area as of about 18 months ago.

I would say those 3 are the best in KC (as far as I know, I haven't been to every steak house here). J Alexander's is good too.
Topeka has nothing comparable to those places - but I agree, Longhorn is pretty bad.

Yes, definately get the fries and gravy. It really adds something to the experience when you actually hear you arteries hardening.

Three fires steak house at Prarie Band might be a good choice too. I've never been there but it would be convenient.

overpriced meh

I generally eat prime rib. Roadhouse is the best, then Longhorn. Longhorn has the best service I've ever seen. One night while we wiated for a table, the manager approached a couple eating at a bar table. He said he had heard they had come just to try the ribs, then found out the were out of them. He not only comped their dinner, but told them to come back for ribs later on him.

Used to love it, then it went downhill fast. Have not been since it re-opened, but have heard very mixed reviews. Not a place I'd recommend taking 20+ people given the mixed reviews.

Miss the old black guy (Bobby?) that took the entire tables order without writing anything down....

Benson, dumbass.

That was years ago. It's great, they can handle 20 if you get a reservation.

if you want to do upscale ($25+ entree) you could do New City Cafe, though 20 people would damn near fill the place.

Seriously tho...

"Crickets" in Spring Hill host private dinners for groups up to 24. They serve Kansas City eye of the strip as their main course.

The thing is...you can't just call to make reservations, you have to be invited to go, and then enter your name in a drawing to host your own dinner.

Sounds weird...but it is exactly what you are looking for.

And they don't advertise...it's all word of mouth.

Edit* Eh...it's like about hour form Topeka.

Ok, now that i'm not on a phone...

Longhorn - chain, will be family friendly and easily handle your needs, but food sucks. They are part of the Darden shit trio of Olive Garden/Red Lobster/Longhorn. Ever notice how they are always within a block or two of each other?

Texas Roadhouse - chain, but good food, will be able to handle your needs.

Northstar - Topeka tradition. Great food. You can hold me personally responsible if you don't enjoy their famous fries and gravy. Good value too, $13.99 gets you a great meal. 20 people will require advanced notice, and no "kids meals"

Plantation - I haven't been there in a few years since they've undergone new ownership, but I don't think they could easily handle a group of your size.

Topeka Steakhouse - food is awful. Would be the easiest to serve 20 though, they have cafeteria type seating.

I'm pretty sure that is all of them.

You're beating this Darden thing into the ground. Longhorn wasn't started by them. They purchased Capital Grille and Longhorn in 2007.
