My wife insists on using the extraneous word in the following: tuna fish.

Is there some other kind of tuna other fish? If not, why say it?

Also, "Pacific Northwest." Why is the "Pacific" part needed?

I guess I don't notice these redundancies much. However, a buddy of mine has taken to saying "per se" ALL THE ****ING TIME AND IT ANNOYS THE ***NG HELL OUT OF ME!!!!

He's also taken to saying "La la la" in place of "yadda yadda yadda." Again, ANNOYING!

I'm grading papers at the moment. In a single sentence a student of mine used "forced under pressure" and "struggled determinedly".

Not that those are common, but they were conveniently on my desktop when I encountered this thread.

you have to say pacific northwest because otherwise people might confuse it with the northwest territory and think you're talking about ohio. this is more of an issue with history professors and really really old people than with the general public.
