Has anyone heard of "Power4Patriots" system

I signed up for it. They show you how to get off the power grid using everyday tools and equipment to build solar panels/wind turbines/solar hot water/solar heat.

One 20x30" solar panel will generate 18v, enough to charge a 12v battery for less the $200. The wind turbine varies as to volts based upon generator size. The 30v setup will create about the same 12v at low wind speed for $140. It requires generators that produce at low rpm. They site used floor buffers as an option.

Again, it's a DIY. They supply the info to step-by-step assemble. All used in conjunction, to at least lower energy costs or go completely off the grid.

Basic Solar/Wind cdrom $27
Platinum Package dvd provides hard copy version includes solar hot water heater, solar heater, disater manuel, solar cooker etc $67
"Living off the Grid" dvd Personal walk through on how to install $20
"Liberty Seeds" Seed Vault $67

All said and done about $250. As you can tell, this is kinda the whacko world comes to an end product. I DO like the idea of providing no nonsense, something that I can build to lower energy costs.

I watched the building a solar panel and wind turbine. Its not rocket science. I've researched a lil bit on alternative sources and the intial cost was 10-20k to go off grid....nope.

Keep in mind, the $250 is for the "how to", not the supplies and work to manufacture.

I was thinking that 10 solar panels at $200/per and 1-2 Larger generated wind turbines at $300/per. Thus for under 4k, I can put a big dent in energy costs. My electric costs per year is about 2k.

Keep in mind, I live out in the country on 10 acres. Thus space is not an issue.

Thoughts from CP?

Thanks for the input.

The video shows running in parrall 36 solar cells at .5 volts per. Thus one panel creates the 18 volts total per panel at ~ $200.

The building of one panel wasn't rocket science. Rivets, solder gun, tempered glass, caulk, channel alumium, etc. The building of the wind turbine was pvc mainly cutting to size, and the generator. Again, fairly simple.

I'll do somemore research as to parts expense. But if it costs me a $1000 to make the first set and add on later if it works plus the tax credits...I figure the $250 for the "how-to" is a risk worth taking.

I have a lil engineering background. The vids that I watched made sense.

The big issue is my time manufacturing the units. Then the cost of storage batteries (deep cells are not cheap) the inverters etc. But if I'm willing to spend my time making these things with the chance of cutting my utility bills and they are showing me step-by-step how to do it...$250 is a drop in the bucket.

Another issue is resale value. Again, it's an IF they work, but if they do...it will increase the value of my home. An other reason to risk $250 bucks.

I'll keep you updated as I go.
