he won't pan out bro. Sorry - also the Chiefs will finish 6-10

It's going to be a horrid ride this upcoming season. I'm not at all looking forward to it, let's say that much.

Why is that good?

Our defensive line has absolutely no one that is even close to special.

Alex Smith looks dinky. He needs some added bulk. I'm predicting injury - on or before week 3.

He's a poor man's Stanford Routt.

And everyone will realize it within a month.

Sean Smith will lose the Chiefs at LEAST 3 games this year.

Why is that good? Okay let me spell it out for you.

The other day, teicher or someone else reported that the "new defense" seemed blitz happy. So, you take your 2 pro bowl caliber OLB's and you blitz, you take your 3 fat kids up front and block up lanes, and give your pro bowl captain ILB/MLB who excels pass coverage and ball hawking, the chance to move freely in that defense and make plays. You take your new ILB/MLB guy, likely going to be Nico, and you use him to fill a gap in that guard/center vacancy depending on run type. You then pile on two physical cover corners, a Strong Safety (berry) who does very well in run support and has every tangible playmaking asset you could ever want on the strong side, and then add in a free safety to provide your support in zone.

If they run, you've got lanes filled up inside with what should turn out to be two VERY good inside linebackers in run support with your big bodies, speed on the edge to get these running backs to cut back against the grain into those filled lanes, and some hard hitting safeties if Dunta moves over to FS, if not you've got Berry and a more zone coverage Lewis to play with.

If they pass, you've got two solid corners in man coverage, one far exceeding the other in zone coverage, and pretty decent safety coverage. Now add in those two pro bowl caliber OLB's we were talking about earlier, and blitz them. Your opponent will have to go with a quick release or an incomplete pass to avoid the sack.

Where do most quick release throws go? They generally go two places. They generally go inside between the tackles, or they go outside to the sideline. If you have the two man coverage corners over there to prevent the outside sideline routes, you go over the middle or dump to the back field. If you dump to the backfield, you've got speedy OLB's on that guy quickly. If you go inside, however, you've got arguably the BEST coverage ILB in the game.

I'm not sure you're looking at the big picture here, but from what I've seen, from what I've heard about this new, very young, very raw defense and scheme that Reid and company have devised, this is going to turn out to be an absolutely BRILLIANT year for DJ in the middle.

If they do what I'm thinking they will be doing, DJ is going to make another Pro Bowl if he doesn't get banged up. He'll have a shit ton of garbage tackles, millions of passes defensed, and likely going to be one of his higher pick years unless Nico ends up being somewhat decent in coverage for some of this formations.

The big picture isn't that Smith is good, or that our Linemen are all stars, its that the pieces we are putting together around the already decent defense we have, are only adding to its strength, not amplifying a weakness.

You can stay on the "we suck, everyone here sucks" bandwagon all you want, so far I've been pretty damned accurate with what Reid and Dorsey have been doing here, dating back to before we signed them. While I don't completely see or agree with what these two are doing at certain times, the big picture is coming together.

We might not make 8-8 this year, we might not make the playoffs or win the division, but this team is being built right from all accounts, and we're adding strong depth to positions that we've had injuries to starters that, on their good days, play lights out.

In the end that's what has really hurt us the last few years. Losing Charles, Moeaki, Berry, etc.

When our team is healthy, we play pretty well, sans Cassel play. When we aren't healthy, we get rolled over. We've done nothing but add starter-quality talent, to our depth in many of those positions, and automatically and instantly upgraded the play of our worst position, QB.

This team is getting built right, eventually you'll come around.

Exoter is correct...great post.

BA's Balls is nothing but a whiny bitch. He would rather predict the worst than actually want something good for the Chiefs. Who gives a shit if he comes around or not? If this is all so traumatic for him, why is he still here?

Agree! I guess the forum wouldn't be as amusing without the whiny bitch brigade... but I am very glad that there are SOME quality posters with an ounce of faith in their team still left on here.

Cool pics, OP... keep em coming, please. GO Chiefs!
