NFL course-changing events that did not happen

This one kind of sparked my interest. I don't remember it at all.

James B. Orthwein purchased the Patriots on May 11, 1992 with the intention of eventually moving the team to his hometown of St. Louis.
  • The Rams would have stayed put in LA, or moved somewhere else
  • I wonder if Boston would have whined as much as Cleveland did two years later, to the point of getting a new expansion Pats, maybe erasing the Panthers or Jags from existence
  • Denver would have had to go in a different direction with their new logo in 1996 (see picture below)

I'm certain there are plenty more examples of this. Serve 'em up!

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Every year the Chiefs don't make the playoffs/lose in the 1st round alters my plans of maybe getting Super Bowl tickets.

True, but Dan Marino is the only QB to win every Superbowl in history...can't argue with that.

Well, yeah. But I think we could've won that 1987 Super Bowl by more than 30 if Montana had been in there. Winning by 24 was not acceptable to me.

If Jay Berwanger had not held out, the Bears would have dominated the rest of the NFL so much that it would have shut down due to the lack of a competitive product.

Originally, the plan for the AFL was to put a team in Minneapolis. The prospective owners of the team were convinced by the NFL to drop the AFL and go with the NFL.

The AFL is also the reason Dallas got a team after expansion was rejected by the NFL previous to the announcement of the AFL.

Which, as I understand it, is why the Raiders exist.
