Dorsey - engineer of best offseason in 20 YEARS!

Let it be noted - there is pretty much nothing Dorsey could have done better this offseason.

Great draft - Resigned Houston - Dumped Bowe - Added Maclin.

Props to knocking this offseason out of the park!

As a Falcon fan, I can't tell you how jealous I am of John Dorsey. This offseason has been such a slam dunk.

Maclin, Houston, and Peters all now on long-term. Three legitimate building blocks for playoff success. That's arguably the best offseason in the entire league.

At least Dorsey knows when to do it as the day after the MLB All-Star game is the slowest sports day (in terms of actual events) of the year.

Still hoping Dorsey will trade for Mychal Kendricks....this signing freed up some cash. Dorsey has been great...no doubt.

I consider Maclin a #1 WR and I think Conley will be a good one as well.

Can't fill every hole immediately, but we are looking much better (for this year and the future) than we did two and a half years ago when Dorsey / Reid came aboard.

There is another factor in here. Dorsey drafted Conley, not just because he's a good receiver but because he has a good rapport with Murray. Chase Daniels has been a second string QB wherever he has gone. Murray, before his ACL tear, was projected to be drafted much higher than the 5th round. There were discussions of him being the best rated QB in the draft. Maybe those conversations were unrealistic but he certainly had talent and we got him in the 5th round. I think that Reid and Dorsey are looking at Murray as the possible QBOTF. Smith is an admittedly average QB, but he is a smart QB. He does not make mistakes. I think Reid and Dorsey are looking at Murray spending 2-3 years learning from Smith before starting him (this worked really well with Aaron Rogers). By that time, Conley will be in his third year and they will have worked together for several years, college and pro.

All in all, I think Dorsey has done more in the GM position than anyone since the early days of King Carl. I do wish we could have kept Rodney Hudson but in a choice between Houston and Hudson, I don't doubt who we should have taken.

Murray isn't a 5th round project QB. Murray went in the 5th because of his ACL issues. Murray was a projected 1st or 2nd round QB before his ACL. Now KC has had some time to see him and gauge his long-term prognosis. Reid has shown that he can develop QB talent. I don't think it is the only reason Conley was drafted but Reid said that Murray was a reason they drafted Conley.

I've followed this team too long to be anything other than cynical. Nonetheless, this strikes me as an interesting plot development, so to speak. Maybe it won't pan out but I have a sneaking suspicion that this possibility was one factor that weighed in the decision to draft Conley.

Projections don't matter. Murray was drafted in the 5th round, and is 3rd on the depth chart. That's a 5th round project QB, by definition. That said, I'm sure he did influence the Conley pick (as I recall there was even some discussion about that in some post-draft articles), but I would imagine it was more about confirming the guy was worth the slot than it was about using a high-mid pick on a guy to pair with the 3rd string QB. Unless they're trying to put together a really good scout team.

I like Murray, but I don't believe there's anyway he drops 4 rounds because of an ACL.

More likely that he falls a round, 2 tops.

And I haven't seen what Reid had to say about Murray's influence in drafting Conley, but I'd guess it would have more to do with Murray's opinion on his character and work ethic than anything to do with their rapport.

We lost our #1 wr who is a good #2 or #3 anywhere else, but with Chiefs was the best one on a roster that couldn't get 1 TD. We added another good #2 wr though

Tough to judge an ave QB with a bad o-line and no quality #1 wr. Hope we fixed o-line for this year, but "Does Alex Smith have enough weapons?" is going to be something we hear if he struggles, or fails to throw and spread out more TDs.

By the time the front office finally fills a glaring hole, another one will open up. Tough to see so many good Ring of fame worthy Chiefs waisted by ignoring such huge holes for so long.

We aren't winning a Super Bowl behind a pass heavy offense. They signed Alex Smith then decided to build around the running game and defense. It's our best shot. Pass offense only has to be good enough to support our defense.
