VARSITY
You can't spend that money if your dead. It's a pretty dangerous job. Also the physicality will take a toll on your body.

If you are so afraid or even question giving up a $10.58 an hour job for one that pays starting $80,000 you have big problems. $80,000 US dollars right now in Canada is HUGE because the exchange rate is 1.27 USD/CDN

GO GET THAT JOB! Screw anyone who tells you otherwise.

Just make sure you HAVE the job before you leave the other.

GOOD LUCK AND GO FOR IT!!!

I heard of a roughneck, but never a longneck? Must be some Canadian slang. Anyways, you’ll make good money, but it’s not that physical like it was back in the day. You’ll get several hours of just down time during your shifts. The work pace itself has slowed way down due too several incidents.

I’ve been in the oilfields for 10 years and I’ve been around rigs for a long time, anybody can do it. You have people on the floor to help you and once you get everything down it’s the same shit over and over. Oilfield workers are great people, you’ll develop a good relationship and work together to make things easier. I say go for it!!!

Care to post a link to the job?

I'd be interested if you pass. Feel free to PM me if you don't want to say which company.

I understand why you might be looking for more, this isn't for you man.

If you want to do more, you're a smart guy and there are options. Maybe you could train to be an hvac guy or plumbers apprentice. Learn to operate heavy equipment. Sell Japanese guys your panties online.

Very valid points. Don't be coerced into a rash decision kcnut. Take your time to evaluate the situation. If your your buddy isn't willing to wait then the time isn't right to make the move.

Dude, after years in project management, I switched careers after tiring of the lack of security . Six month project here, 12 months there. I got my CDL.

Went to work for a flatbed carrier OTR. I was 38, decent shape. And man,.....that work was rough for 2 to 4 hours at a pop. Dead of summer. I lost 38lbs as a trucker for gods sake. Lol. That career went tits up due to a medical issue, and I’m back in PM, But be careful switching to a completely different line of work. It’s rough. I didn’t have to experience loading and securing in the ballls cold of winter, it I can only imagine how bad it would’ve been if it’s anything on the level of suck as summer.

I would imagine oil work would be 20 times as bad.
