Food and Drink Eating food past the "best by" date. Do you? - Page 2

As you can tell by my CP handle, I'm a fan of thrill seeking, risk-taking and general daredevilism when there's a carefully planned approach.

I just ate yogurt with an August 10 date on the side.

It was as single-serve, unopened Chobani Blueberry that was in my fridge the entire time I've owned it. Visual inspection showed some clear liquid at the top, smell was normal, taste was normal.

What's your take? Daredevil factor from 1-10 (1 being wet-Charmin safe and 10 being "hold my beer") am I going to live?

BTW do you eat food past the due date? What's your policy?

Depends. Bread is still good unless stale or moldy. cheese is still good unless moldy. If eggs pass the float test? Go to town. etc etc. Gotta know what your eating man.

I run the fridge on max cold at all times, it really helps with meat and milk

What about peanut butter? We dont eat a lot of it but its not refrigerated and open is it safe. Hell I could have eaten open unrefrigerated peanut butter 2 to 3 years old for all I know. Im alive so I guess it keeps.

I seen a open half can of sardines in a dollar tree parking lot. I was tempted I love sardines.

If it's block cheese, you can just trim the mold and keep eating.

BTW, has anyone noticed that packaged shredded cheese stays good for a lot longer than it used to? Alien technology?

I went 100% expired foods 3 months ago and my inflammation is all but gone.

When I was young, in the late 60's and 70's I used to stay with my aunt and uncle in Mt. Vernon, Mo. in the summer. My aunt never cooked and it was fend for yourself. They would go to a store which only sold past date food and stock up. We never died and some of that stuff was older than me. I dunno, I honestly think....

- a "best by" date is arbitrary.
- a "sell by" date date is more time sensitive.
- a "die by" date is probably worth a second thought

Hell, most recalled food is still in date !

I'd give you a 1 maybe 2. It is only 8 days.
Depends on what it is and how long it has been expired as to whether I would eat it or not. I am not a fan of vomiting, diarrhea or stomach cramping stuff.

I'm grilling a ribeye steak thats been in the fridge for a week. It's a little green on one side but I covered it with blackened fish seasoning so I can't see the green anymore. It'll be fine.

When I worked in the manufacturing world, Shelf Life dates are used primarily as an inventory control device - to keep product moving - and not as an indication of product viability. I imagine a lot of that goes on in the food industry as well. If they can't convince you to throw stuff out, how will they get you to buy new stuff?

I've suspected that all along. They even put an expiration date on aspirin.
