Overreaction Planet

It took a perfect storm for us to lose by one point to the team with the second best record in the AFC last night. SB teams lose games (almost) every year. We have been hanging around 18% chance to win the SB all year. It will in all likelihood end in disappointment. This was always true.

Bottomline is we weren't as good as some of you thought before this game and we are better than some of you think afterwards. In either case, expect to walk away from this season without a SB victory. Play the long game.

I think we went from an exception to the Chiefs rule in a lot of people's minds to just another fatally flawed team.

That hurts.
The Chiefs don't have any significant home field advantage measured against expectation. Believe in data, not myths.

The truth is that this place is a bipolar rapid cycler. When the Chiefs win in Seattle next week, and they will, this place will crown them. The Chiefs have a bad defense, but their offense is good enough to overcome anything. This isn't the 2003 Chiefs that lost to teams like the Bengals or lost by four TDs to the Vikings, or the 1995 team that won almost all its coinflips and got bludgeoned by a mediocre Browns team.

They've beaten three of their five likely playoff opponents already, and lost to two of them by a total of four points. They can lose because every team can lose in a one game sample of a sport that isn't ridiculously imbalanced (like college FB). Teams can beat Mahomes and teams can come in to Arrowhead and win. But no team wants to have to. That's as much as you can hope for in pro football.
great post.

I was bothered by the Pats and Rams loss. But it didn't destroy me. Yesterday's loss destroyed me.

Not because of how we played. Talent can change - it can improve, it can be upgraded, Mahomes will keep getting better. Sutton is deflating but I just get a sense he's dead man walking this offseason. Year 2 will be great.

But Andy Reid on the other hand after 20 years should know better. And if he still refuses to fix it now, I have even less confidence he'll ever want to fix it. If we lose with our team on the attack, so be it.... I do not want to ever again see this shit where we end the game playing not to lose. Ever.

Remember trying to blame the defense last year, but was assured that it was the QB's fault for our failures.

We called pass plays two of the last three plays. Andy did not go into a shell. Here's what happened: Ward blocked in the back to pin us deep, Harris jumped the count, and o-line blocking was shitty on two plays.

Do you contend that the QB play is not significantly better this year? Do you contend that the team is not better?

24 hours after the game ended, my thoughts are this.

The Chiefs still control their fate. They don’t need any favors to get where they want to go. They’re actually pretty darn healthy compared to where they’ve been in past years at this time, and they’re probably going to get their banged up players back soon (Watkins, Ware, Erving). It sounds like Fuller hasn’t been lost for much if any time, and that’s huge for a team so thin at the CB position. We’re probably going to get LDT or Watts back, and I am hoping for LDT because he could solidify the offense along with Watkins as the playoffs loom.

I think Kelvin Benjamin is only going to become more acclimated with the offense here in the coming weeks, and that could be huge. Neither he nor Conley are guys that are going to separate against man coverage, but Kelvin gives them size that only Kelce can replicate. I think he can help out.

The Chiefs currently have one of the best set of pass rushers in the entire league, capable of rushing with just four. Eric Berry is the key to everything on that side of the ball, as confirmed last night. I do not believe that this team has a chance to win the Super Bowl under Bob Sutton’s coordination without Eric Berry. If he’s there, we’ve got a shot IMO.

Time to see how they respond in Seattle. A tough matchup and tough environment coming off of a bad loss. A truly great team would respond with a win I believe. We will see.

The shine came off for idiots/homers. For everyone else, it's been obvious that the team was fatally flawed by the defense since the first few games.

This is spot on.

I want to see the routes Andy called though.

Mahomes wasn't held scoreless for an entire half.

Please stop white knighting gumby leg.

Do you really think they hold the Bengals to 10 points in Cincy?
